China and Russia are allies. But the Chinese appear to be interested in financial, rather than military, conquest. If Putin goes off the rails and takes on China's European and American trading partners, Xi can cut off oil and natural gas purchases from Russia.

However, if NATO and the U.S. topple the current Russian regime and replace it with a Boris Yeltsin type pro-Western government and particularly if Russia breaks apart as the Soviet Union did 32 years ago, China will be isolated on the world scene. India and Brazil will re-align with the West as will most of the small Marxist regimes like Cuba and Venezuela. Xi may think Putin a bit crazy, but he does not want to be reduced to submission to the decadent West and its anti-industrial, "green" agenda.
