Why alter anyone’s actual words/quotes in an indictment?

Now this could be a line of argument for the Trump team, but the problem as I see it is for that to have any weight, Trump would have to prove the document was declassified when he showed it to the writer. I agree that Trump, as president, could declassify anything and didn’t have to follow any specific process. However, if he did declassify it but didn’t document that fact prior to leaving office or have witnesses to the act, then it becomes a question of credibility - will the jury really believe him, or will they think he is covering himself after the fact?

Article II Section 1 says that executive power shall be vested in the President. The President who is the Chief Executive can declassify and classify documents when and how he sees fit.

If the president says that he declassified a document, it is declassified.

It's up to the prosecution to prove otherwise.

This entire indictment is bogus.

If the president says a document is declassified, it is. Trump is no longer president. If there is no evidence he declassified the documents as president, it becomes a question of credibility- does the jury believe Trump declassified the documents based on only his word? First, this would require Trump to testify (always a risky strategy, as it opens him up to a lot of other questions), and then would require the jury to believe him. The point I am making is that by not documenting it, he leaves himself at the mercy of a possibly hostile jury.

Classified documents can be marked “SECRET” or “CONFIDENTIAL”. There is no such classification called “a secret” and “like highly confidential” .

You are being absurd.

He didn’t delete them. Read the entire indictment, the full quotes are there in context. Sperry is ventilating about one spot in the indictment while ignoring the rest.

He didn’t alter them. They are in the indictment for anyone to read. In one specific paragraph he used a portion of the quote, but the entire quotes are used elsewhere in the indictment.

Those words are in the indictment. In fact the entire quotes are listed, in context. The fact that he used a portion of one quote in one specific location while using the entire quote elsewhere in the indictment undercuts your argument that he lied by omission. No one has presented any evidence that Smith did not present the entire tape or transcript to the grand jury. As I have said before, if all he gave them were snippets and out of context quotes in order to get the charge, Trump should be able to get it dismissed.

"the transcript reveals Trump actually said: "like, highly confidential" and "a secret." Smith omitted the words "like" and "a.""

Like - how could they delete the word 'like' from the transcript. Like 'like' is an important word. And they also deleted an 'a'. Like that is evidence tampering you know.

That should get someone either disbarred or arrested for obstruction of justice.

“Sperry is ventilating about one spot in the indictment while ignoring the rest.”

“one spot”??? One spot that is a dishonest, deceptive rendition of what Trump said?

Can you be serious?

You are clearly trying to make a crime sound like something innocent.

Take single quotes out of context is just as bad, even if you include the entire quote late.

And the article says they ALTERED the content.

You’re no conservative

It was not a dishonest rendition of what Trump said. Read the whole thing. Trump said the material was highly classified and secret, as well as calling it “a secret”. He didn’t say it was “ like highly classified”, meaning similar to but not highly classified, he said it was “like, highly classified”. Using the word “like” in that manner is an annoying type of verbal pause used by people, similar to “umm”, “so”, “well”, “you know”, etc. Sperry is actually being dishonest in his tweet and getting the hopes of the Trump supporters up over nothing.

The article claimed they altered the content - that doesn’t make it true. No crime was committed by the prosecution in regard to this specific allegation - I can’t speak to any other crimes they may have committed in this case.

And you know this how? Were you there? And since you were evidently there in on the discussion, and knowing Trump’s inner thoughts, did Trump show the document to anyone? Was Trump maybe bluffing when he said that (he is a salesman); it would appear that he was surprised to just pull it out.
