There is a fellow that was supposed to be on that sub but backed out because he studied up on the safety of the vessel and asked for his 10G deposit back.

It wasn’t his time yet.

“I think it probably ran out of oxygen the moment it imploded.”

The multi-part hull of different materials should have been a red flag. I don’t know, I wasn’t there, but I would speculate that the titanium end-cap on the carbon fiber hull shrank just bit in the cold water causing torsional stress on the adhesive. At that depth, all it would take is a tiny crack in the joint for the whole thing to fail.

“Screwed and glued” carbon fiber bicycle frames had a history of failing and they were not under close to the amount of stress that sub was under.

Just heard this morning that Stockton Rush’s wife great-great grands died on Titanic. They were featured on just about every movie made about the sinking. They were the elderly couple where the wife refused to get on board a lifeboat, opting to stay with her husband of 40 years.

I’m not saying I’d never take any risks.
It’s like I said yesterday, you have to weigh the risks versus the rewards.

The first guy to top mount everest could at least claim to be the first. Others who followed can at least claim that they overcame extreme hardship and did something most others cannot do, as well as the fact that it’s a serious experience.

So I don’t buy the Mt.Everest analogy.
This sub gets you close to the Titanic. That’s it. You don’t get a good look. You don’t get to touch. You don’t even get to claim that you hiked up hill. You crouched inside a tin can under the ocean.

they had no water, but no one mentions that. These people are dead.

I think these guys do it for bragging rights at parties. If I had to choose, I’d much rather die out in the open from hypoxia up on Mt. Everest than die this way.

I have no idea what the comments are on Twitter that you say are disgusting but there is one thing I do know. The department of the Navy is sending resources out to try and retrieve the sub. This is the same department of the Navy that has issued a 96% denial rate for disability claims due to Camp Lejeune toxicity claims (my husband's included) and has also answered the PACT act preliminary claims with, “They knew there were dangers when they signed”. So forgive me if my thoughts on taxpayer funding of a rescue mission for billionaire tourists offends you. I'm just having a hard time reconciling the expenditure of our tax dollars on this as opposed to being told, “you're on your own” by the same entity that pumped toxic water into “water buffalos” and carted them out to our soldiers to drink for weeks at a time as they trained.

“asked for his 10G deposit back.”

He should not get his money back.

It was a “sunk cost”.

;-)

And then there's Captain Kirk...Experience of a life time.

Not all wealthy people are bad people....in fact, only a couple I can think of. Many have provided millions of jobs etc etc.

Rich and evil are not synonyms.

And every voyage lends itself to improvement. This sub has been on many voyages.

Very sad. Criminal negligence. At the least why was there no submarine emergency position-indicating radio beacon?

www.saphotonics.com
The benefit of the SA Photonics SSEPIRB is the unique combination of energy harvesting and energy storage systems that increase reliability and shelf life and reduce maintenance. Our self-powered SEPIRB has a shelf life of more than 10 years and an energy harvesting system that can efficiently generate power from the surrounding environment for more than the minimum 48 hours. Redundant linear generators are used to generate energy from wave motion, and instead of using traditional rechargeable batteries which may limit the lifespan and shelf-life of a SEPIRB, energy for the SA Photonics system is stored in high tech. quick charge subsystems which have almost unlimited charge/discharge cycles with no degradation of performance. High reliability power sources supplement the energy charging system to provide a fast first charge of the system and to minimize time to first position fix and the first distress signal transmission.

As I posted on another thread, it’s not because they are billionaires per se. It’s the fact that they had more than enough money to do this whole thing safely but they STILL cut corners. And yes, I find the absurdity of this to be funny. Wokeism and hubris encounter reality.

“I fear this will go from a ‘rescue’ to a ‘recovery’ operation, all too soon.”

Just let them rest there. It’s too far down, and if it imploded (probable), then there is nothing to recover. Just one more chapter in the Titanic book.

I hope not. It might damage the wreckage.

The bleeding-heart wokesters are responding in the only way they can.... with their “feelings”. You’re attempting to apply reality and logic to the discussion of this issue. That never works with “some” folks. I know. I’ve tried.

Comm was lost before they got down. There is no reason they should be tangled in the Titanic because they never got there. Most likely it imploded and is at the bottom of the ocean in Davey Jones locker. How many have lost their lives at sea doing things more important to society? Kind of hard to care.

Exactly. To me, not enough billionaires make it to the "find out" part of the saying.

There have been a lot of tasteless comments and memes about this. How could anyone sink so low. :)

Would this device have to be affixed to the outside of the submersible and withstand pressure at bottom near the wreckage to function? Or could it be inside the capsule area and work by manually activating it if and when they reached the surface again? It’s annoying to think they may have been floating on the surface in the rough seas but not visible for days with no way to alert rescuers as they ran out of air.
