Leftist politicians aren’t the stupid ones; they just need their voters to be stupid so they throw them raw meat like “fair share” “spread the wealth” and other nonsensical ideas so that they gain and hold power. That’s the only goal here. Consequences be damned.
I think this is a brilliant idea, but the problem is that the rate wasn’t high enough. California and NYC could solve all their revenue problems with a modest wealth tax of, say 3%. Just think of all the benefits they could distribute to illegals.... >:)

The liberals are paying attention; that’s why they want a wealth tax.
In some ways, wealth tax is fairer then income tax.
Income fluctuates, wealth more stable. Taxing rich vs. taxing somebody who just won a lottery.
But, it is notoriously hard to enforce and easy to avoid.
I always remind people of the Great Rock and Roll Tax Flight when half the British bands fled British taxes. Some of them went to countries that specifically were giving breaks to people fleeing the taxes. Jack up taxes on the people with the most ability go elsewhere and they go elsewhere.
Your arguments, while quite valid, are easily refuted by calling you a racist.
Millions have left California and stopped millions from moving to the state because of the high taxes and the socialists who support criminals.
