THAT kind of “Conversion” is MASSIVELY costly.

It will at least give those buildings a function, since there aren’t people working in those offices anymore.

The conversion would still be cheaper than demolishing and re-building a completely new structure, and with the way most of these office towers are designed, with a strong central column and everything cantilevered out, re-purposing the floors all at once is feasible. Pricey, but possible.

Basically, strip the interior walls out, then start afresh. Run the utilities lines, then away you go.

Yes, I’m over-simplifying, but it’s still better than derelict buildings all over the city centre, no?

Zoning codes must allow for more high-rise development, and building codes (especially in congested, urban areas) must describe only essential safety requirements. With a few reforms, and a bunch more modern, secure, high-rise apartment buildings in our major cities, we’ll not only see more affordable housing but citizens kept safer against criminals, as well.

If that were true, the safest places in America would be the center cities. In reality, small towns and countrysides are far safer.

Here in southern California it is $2,000+ plus utilities like electric for a 700sq/ft 1 bedroom apt.
$1,250 for a 350sq/ft apt. Some will also charges for utilities like electric.

Single 1 story, no basement on small .25 acre lot with a wall around it home, prices average around $800,000
