Home Depot had a senior citizen greeter stabbed to death in the lobby of the store, stores repeatedly tell team members do not confront a thief their lives are at risk!! There is not an item in the store worth a team members life!! People out there are damn CRAZY today, they are brazen, they have NO conscience, NO respect for the rule of law and think NOTHING of stabbing or shooting you!! This is NOT the country it used to be, when you put your life on the line in a business today it is immediate termination!! EVERYONE working in retail NOW knows this!!!
If you are an associate in plumbing, electrical, appliances, hardware or lumber at Home Deport or Lowes, nowhere in the job description does it direct you to risk your life to stop shoplifting.
It’s in rural South Georgia. The employees may leave you alone, but, the guys from the area might just try to stop you. Specially after this.

As a stock holder in Lowe's, I emailed them my frustrations and concerns. Shoplifting is a crime. Post off duty police officers and it will bring this to a halt. Walmart does it at Christmas. Why only at Christmas and Black Friday? Each store loses hundreds of thousands of dollars to blatant shoplifting.
After this report, I Won’t shop at Lowes, it shows their disregard for security as an invitation to criminals.

Wally World shutter my store because of self proclaimed repartions. Their bad behavior hurt their community. Once Walmart left Brookyn Center, crime dropped at my gym.
I was at Lowes the other day and the lady on the register was commenting that next week store inventory was coming up. She made a crack that the folks who use the “five finger discount” normally stay away from the store during inventory.
Stores have learned, try to stop one of these goons and if they get hurt in the process, the goons sue and THE GOONS WIN. Must be cheaper to let the theft happen instead of paying big $$$ in lawsuit. DAMN LAWYERS!!!!!
Yeah, hadn’t been there in over three years and seldom before that. I usually go to Home Depot.
You can be sure the policy is set by underwriters who do not view the merchandise the insure worth not only the employee’s life but a lawsuit by parties involved or (if the worst happens) surviving relatives.
Bottom line, The goal at the end of the shift is, Go home to your family. Let the security of police go after the thieves.

Why not simply train every sales associate to be security guards and pay each of those associates the going rate for retail security officers and empower them to stop shoplifters?
I am a part time team member at Home Depot they pound it repeatedly into our heads to NEVER confront a shoplifter NEVER under any circumstances!! This is why this team member lost her job she violated the absolute #1 policy in ALL of these companies she could have lost her life FULL STOP!! I understand how we all feel about stopping these thugs HOWEVER when you are on the job the company is responsible for your safety FULL STOP!!
I say screw these big box stores. Let them fail.
I just bought a gas leaf blower this afternoon from HD, I should have just walked out without paying.

You can NO LONGER walk out with that weed whacker, EVERYTHING I the stores are now locked up like Fort Knox EVERYTHING is in cages now, customers have to wait for the team member to get the tool and walk it to the cashier for them!! They can leave the store with up to $1000.00 in merchandise before the police will even come out and file a report!! If the person leaving the store with less than a $1000.00 we don’t even bother to get the license # on the car, police will not even file a report!! The only option the stores have now is to put EVERYTHING in cages, insurance costs must be controlled or they are passed on to the consumer!! The nation is in a very sad state of affairs right now, our citizens don’t give a shit about right and wrong!!
