I use the same description for Mahar as I do for Brooks, and always have.
The real question for us is what are “Conservatives” conserving at this point ?

Here is one definition:
If they can censor you, cancel you, fire you from your job, they are the elites.
If you can censor them, cancel them, fire them from their job, you are one of the elites.
Elite theory is descriptive. It merely means the people who have important positions and are in charge of institutions.
It doesn’t mean they are competent, talented or good at their jobs.
In fact, America’s elites are some of the most decadent, cowardly, decayed and incompetent in the entire world. They just have a huge social, economic, and financial capital stock to squander.
The brilliant intellectual who understood that “conservatives” were just “conserving” their own destruction was Sam Francis.
Anything he wrote is worth reading.

So, Trump is a monster, and the rubes who support him are still smelly icky bitter clingers, but he can kinda sorta see why we might not like our ruling "betters". The solution, no doubt, is to figure out who to mollify the folks in flyover country, while Brooks and his fellow "elite" continue to destroy the nation as founded.
Color me shocked.
It has to have something to do with his self-interest in the Dem Party. Maybe he can see the writing on the wall that Biden, Inc. is going down.

Elites also have conflicts of interest, identify of interest, self-dealing and other elements of corruption to keep and grow their power.

I have a bachelor’s degree, a law degree and a masters of law degree, all from elite schools. I must be part of “the less-educated class” that Brooks describes, though, because I despise him and is ilk with every fiber of my being.
I’ve said it before. Democrats have to save the country or it’s done. If left to the Repukes it’s already done. Rats have to be willing to see that what has been done to Trump has gone waaaayyyy to far. A substantial number or Democrats (not necessarily the politicians) need to drop the hate and back Trump against this or it’s game over for all. Doesn’t look like they are there yet but here’s hoping.

The problem with modern day elites is that they got ahead through nepotism, ass kissing and diversity quotas . They lack the intelligence and class of older elites.
What does that even mean?
It means they are Bigger A....les than foreign ones and Better at being an A....le.
The real failure IMHO is that these elites are incapable of seeing the results of their policies and actions. If they do notice they immediately shift blame to others. There is nothing elite about them. Look at any of them. Mayorkas, Buttgieg, Kissinger.... Everywhere they go they spread disaster through their incompetence. And then blame someone else. Worse is that too often it’s not incompetence. It’s purposeful evil.
