If I might play the devil’s advocate here for a little; I’d bet that the Swedes simply had no clue what would happen, as none of them had ever had any experience what the new immigrants and their cultures would be like.

After all, immigration into Sweden had always been minuscule between the 13th century (which brought a significant German immigration) and the economic boom of the 1950s, which brought a lot of Finns to Sweden, who are, for the most part, culturally quite similar.

I get your point and could possibly be persuaded by it but the Swedes are also, not withstanding their socialist ways, some of the more intelligent people on the face of the earth.

Surely they watch the news and understand that most of these people have little or no education, no trainable skill, no work ethic, no money, breed like rabbits and many or most are brainwashed Wahabi’s which preaches 5 times a day the art of raping women, killing infidels (i.e. Swedes) and throwing gay people off roof tops.

Yes, the Swedes are, for the most part, intelligent, exremely honest and hardworking people.

Still, many of them might be somewhat naive in their outlook, thinking most other people are like they are. They are too trusting for their own good, similarly to many of my countrymen (especially in the North), who are ethnically and culturally so closely related to the Swedes and other Scandinavians.

So they have fallen into a trap, thinking they could assimilate those culturally alien people into their system of folkhemmet (peoples‘ home), which Sweden had developed since the 1930s. They were wrong, and Milton Friedman, one of the wisest economists of our time, was vindicated once again: „You can either have a social security system, or open borders, but not both“

And yes, Sweden has the Socialdemokraterna, the Social Democrats, as a party, which dominated Swedish politics from the thirties to the eighties, which has plenty in common with the American Democrats. Alas…
