“If he ran third party, would he pull more votes from Biden, or from Trump? I imagine that’s the sort of calculation the DNC is working.”

If Trump’s support among Republicans is, say 70%, then that leaves 30% up for grabs. Among Democrats if the real support for Biden is, say, 50%, that leaves the other 50 up for grabs. In the middle I’d guess the Independant’s would swing at least 50% for Kennedy. That makes him a real third-party contender.

In 2020 some republican state committees cancelled their caucuses and primaries.

Is it only the wrong thing to do depending on the candidates?

I am amused that the public still believes that candidates are chosen by primaries. The choice is still made in smoke filled rooms…its just earlier than it used to be.

If RFK Jr stays in the race until election day, he is probably a net positive for Trump.

Regardless, I am concerned that RFK Jr will also siphon off Independent and Third Party voters who might have considered voting for Trump in 2024.

If he’s like Bernie, he should threaten to run third party and then get a nice lakeside house for not doing it.

Re: "The choice is still made in smoke filled rooms"

How come the smoke filled rooms chose Trump in 2016?

in 2020 there was no candidate except Trump. There is a difference between that and this situation. Trump was not unpopular in his party.

Second. Cancelling is not the same as rigging delegate counts and campaigning rules that give all the delegates candidate “A” wins to candidate “B” which is what the shitocrats are doing.

RFK is the only one running who’s telling the whole truth about the China virus and the mRNA jabs, and Remdesivir etc.

Rather rigging it for "whoever". Not convinced it'll be Biden. But not decided democratically that's for sure.

How come the smoke filled rooms chose Trump in 2016?

They didn't. They chose Jeb Bush, but unlike the Dems they don't use mafia techniques to clear out the other candidates ("You don't want a house? OK, you have nice kids, it'd be a shame if something happened to them"), so he flopped, and then Ted Cruz really flopped, and suddenly there wasn't anyone else.

I can guarantee you, however, that every single smoke-filled-roomer was firmly convinced that Trump was a clown and Hillary was going to be The Best Female President Ever, so the election shocked them all. They have sworn in the last eight years NEVER EVER to let that happen to them again. NEVER.

As long as the alternative for RFK JR is a run as an independent candidate and not as a Democrat.

Yeah, as a Trump supporter I can live with it.

Saw his ad which said he is a Populist and that the election and his running in it is for the people and then showed people of all stripes. Could’ve been a MAGA ad. I was surprised.

Nothing in politics happens by accident, if you understand this axiom, the Trump Era makes perfect sense.
