Wonder what is going to happen when one of these goes off in a basement of a high rise.

Yup. I am waiting for the first large carrier to Kia/Hyundai EVs (refuse to cover them) it will happen in the near future like you said.

Then Byedumb will come up with some government solution to the problem government created that will cost way to much and not do what its suppose to.

in the video others have posted in this thread the battery is sitting on the ground in front of the front wheels of the car. Not sure what was going on (theft?) but I don’t think it was installed in the car.

LOL! I guess that’s one way to “save da planet.” Have EVs burn down normal vehicles five at a time.

One day an EV will bring down a parking garage full of cars. If it starts on level one it will consume the place.

Every EV is a ticking time bomb so no need for Terrorists , just wait the home mechanics start fixing his/her own EV

Have you ever looked at what is necessary for Lithium Ion batteries to work?

It takes a control board to balance charging between cells.

It takes another board to control the rate of discharge on them.

It is complex. And the world is dying from complexity.

I suppose if one has a choice. I seldom pay attention to what vehicles are adjacent to where I park and if it’s a recognizable ev I don’t freak out if it is but yeah if it’s a relatively empty lot I tend to park away from any other vehicle for space alone.

I think it will come from the shipping industry.

Haven’t there already been TWO large cargo ships LOST to lithium battery fires? One somewhere off the English Channel last year, and another off Long Beach maybe two years ago?

Couple more and the carriers for those cargo ships will say “whoa, whoa, whoa, hold up there” just like the airlines did after that SINGLE incident of a 737 going down into the Everglades about 25 years ago due to a lithium power generator of some sort that decided to ignite and fill the hold then the cockpit with smoke. Splash.

Now common carriers don’t ship lithium batteries, you can’t even mail a cell phone legally if it has a Li battery except for GROUND/surface carrier.

It’s not just ships.

It’s parking ramps
Towing companies
Rail companies
Trucking companies
Salvage yards (we won’t take evs due to fire risk)

Yep.

All going to come to a head when BIG INSURANCE takes note of this and tells government.gov “NO.”

How much loss can they handle before being declared “to big to fail”?
