People choose populists and demagogues over rich by inheritance quitters and wishy washy politicians every time.
Romney turned out to be weak sauce.

Unless Romney is faking it for some obscure reason.

Mitt is a loser and a quitter.

Romney will strategically only be on the ballot where he could hurt Trump. Does anyone really think he’d throw his hat in in Mass or NM where he may just be the difference to favor Trump?

“At least he has that to meditate on in his old age.”

He can also meditate over a significant number of Ukraine and Russian young men who were killed to supports bribes paid to his family.

I too am questioning possible ulterior motives or outside influence (Mormon elders) regarding Romney’s announcement.

Anyone who represents both Massachusetts and Utah in his political career is a phony of the highest order.

Romney calling MAGA candidates demagogues is quite a bit of psychological projection.

So did I, but when all you have to choose from is rotten, then you pick the less rotten.

Romney and Trump had a dinner at the Trump hotel or Trump tower, after the 2016 election and before Trump took office. I always wondered what they talked about. Trump also had a meeting with Al Gore...Gore gave a typical gobbledegook response when asked about the meeting.
I believe Trump knows much, much more about the sordid underbelly of politics than he lets on.

quote: “It’s pretty clear that the party is inclined to a populist demagogue message.”

More accurately, the citizenry is no longer inclined to swallow the BS that self appointed elite of middling intelligence are trying to sell.

Mitt is An old fifty watt bulb in a 500k lumens world. People can see though their lies.

In 2012, I evaluated 4,442 essay written by 5th graders on the topic of (approx.) “Who do you respect?”

Around 25 - 35% cited Barack or Michelle.

The number of Romney enthusiasts was MUCH easier to count.

One.

Not 1%.

One (1) of the essayists consider Mitt Romney to be a man worthy of admiration.

At that point, I knew that the game was rigged, the fight was fixed, and Mr. Romney had already volunteered to serve as the fall guy, the one who would take a dive for “the greater good.”

Romney said he wasn't running for re-election.
He didn't say that he was not running for President.

He is basically admitting that the party has made its choice and that there is little place for his brand of politics.

This is correct. There is no place for assistant democrats in the Republican Party.

The Republican “populist demagogic leader” is the same person Romney tried to get a job with in 2017, unsuccessfully.

Could a former governor of Massachusetts, the son of a former governor of Michigan, have been elected senator in Utah if he wasn’t a Mormon?
