As I said, it was a multi-pronged effort. Stepped up security at home played a big role too. Sometimes that went too far.
Besides, if Bush hadn’t clonked the Taliban, he (Bush, and possibly Cheney too) would have been impeached and somebody tougher put in. The public discourse after 911 was, um, not nice, as it applied to Muslims. Ever listen to that recording of The Howard Stern Show on 911?
Iraq was more about brushing back countries supporting terrorism, than anything else. Take out Saddam and his still quite substantial military, in impressive fashion, seemingly at will, and other sponsors of terrorists would (and did) take note. Bush chose not to level with the public though, and went with George Tenet’s “slam dunk” on WMD. I guess they figured fear made a better argument. In the long run, it didn’t. I to this day think most Americans would understand that knocking one bastard on his ass was better than trying to get tied up with all of them. (Plus, having our forces with bases in Afghanistan and Iraq semi-surrounded Iran, which was and is the biggest problem in the long run.)

Besides, how would I “prove” lack of attacks? Somehow post copies of, say, the NY Times front page covering 22 years?
That’s not to say there were no major terrorist attacks anywhere. I recall a nasty one in Saudi Arabia, and IIRC at least two in Egypt. And of course way too many attacks to remember in Israel, although I don’t recall any one killing dozens or more people. I could be wrong on that.
And Benghazi, of course, but that’s obviously not in the US, although in a sense a US property.
