I remember reading about Cloward-Piven some years ago, wether it was here, Rush Limbaugh talking about it, or some other source; it CANNOT BE STRESSED ENOUGH that this is what’s going on, and it bears repeating over and over again.

Temporarily. Just to soften the blow a little. The true scope of the reality we actually face could be compared to being invaded by human eating aliens from another world.
Metaphorically it would be the same. And if they did it all at once there would be global panic an chaos on a massive scale.
So they are allowing us to fool ourselves with false pacifiers to soften the blow of our new reality. In reality the two party system was already gone years ago.
