Electric pickups turning out to be as valuable as a case of Tab cola and a case and Budweiser.

They "lose" $33,000 for every truck they sell but they will make it up in government subsidies and guarantees of all kinds.

In other words, we taxpayers are making up the difference.

They can make it up in more volume.

Lets see....

The plant in Georgia is not in an economically depressed area. Far from it. The area is retirees, farms and cattle ranches.

Not some poverty stricken, inner city ghetto or some south Georgia county that has nothing but onion and peanut farms.

The plant in Georgia is being built on what was a 2000 acre family farm. The son that sold it, right after his mother died, was on the Economic Development Authority.

Rivian had a spot picked out near Savannah where they already had the infrastructure, rail and port access. Now they’re are hundreds of miles from the ports, have to build a rail spur, and being that it’s a rural farming area, there is no infrastructure to support the factory.

I digress....

The corrupt Governor slid this past the people of Georgia and they tried to fight back but the government is too invested. They’re getting $700+million in property tax abatements that the Governor gave them without any input from the county.

Rivian has stated that they plan on making around 400k cars a year in the plant in Georgia. And that they’re going to employ 7500 people. Folks on here have stated, correctly, that it takes less people to make an EV than it does a gas vehicle. They have sold some more snake oil saying that they project an additional 7500 jobs in peripheral occupations. Hmmmmmmm.....

Our West Point, Georgia facility is the only Kia manufacturing plant in the United States, and the only automaker in Georgia.

https://www.kiageorgia.com/about-kia-georgia/the-plant/

We manufacture three models in Georgia, the Telluride CUV, Sorento CUV, and the K5 midsize sedan.

We currently produce 340,000 vehicles a year at this location, operating 3 shifts a day, 24 hours a day.

Additionally, we also ship vehicles to sales markets around the globe, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Middle East and Pacific nations.

The Kia Georgia Training was a key part of Kia Georgia’s growth to more than 2,700 team members and continues to provide world class training to the Kia Georgia team.

So.....

2700 people make 3 different Kia vehicles for a company that actually HAS a market share. Vehicles that need more people to make them.

Yet rivian is going to make about the same amount of vehicles, needing fewer people in the manufacturing process, with virtually NO market share and they’re going to do it with almost 3x as many people.

there’s quite a few rivians zipping about in the lower elevations of Boulder County right now while the weather is still good ...

until a couple of days ago, i’d never seen a single one with a load in their diminutive cargo bed ... but then everything changed! ... i saw a rivian with a load! ... it was carrying a dirt bike, but the bed is so short that half the bike had to be carried on the open tailgate ...

death to the green new deal:

30 Sept: Guardian UK: ‘The quotes were £5,000 or more’: electric vehicle owners face soaring insurance costs
Drivers who ditched petrol and diesel to help save the planet face huge price rises in premiums
by Zoe Wood
“My insurer was Aviva from July 2022 to July 2023, but when it was coming up for renewal, I received a letter stating that they would not be covering the Tesla Model Y any more,” David says. “I am a member of a Tesla UK owners forum, and lots of other people seem to be having the same issue.”

In the Facebook group, members share stories of horror renewal quotes, with increases ranging from 60% (up to £1,100) to a staggering 940% (a jump from £447 to £4,661, according to a screengrab shared by one driver).
“I spent weeks on every comparison site as well as trying individual insurers and specialist brokers, but either they wouldn’t cover the car or the quotes were £5,000 or more,” says David, whose only change in circumstance was three points on a licence...

But it is not only owners of Model Ys – which with a starting price of about £45,000 was the bestselling electric car in the UK last year – who are finding that, like the government, insurers are wobbling about the cost of net zero...

Their stock price has plunged from $130 in November 2021 down to about $20 today. Robert Joseph Scaringe is the founder & CEO of Rivian. RJ only owns 1.4% of the stock but has veto power over any board decisions.

The largest shareholders are Amazon and Abdul Latif Jameel.

Don’t worry, they will make it up in volume.

IIRC, they build Amazon delivery trucks, so they do have volume.

Ford and GM are surviving on the at least $15 billion in bribes to build electric vehicles no one wants.

I saw 2 Tesla’s at the grocery store on monday. I have to say they are cheap looking. No styling. I have seen videos on how thin the paint is. Google: tesla paint is thin

Watch this guys videos on electric.

I worked for a company that sold a product that lost 7% for each one they sold. When confronted about the loss of money from each sale, the Sales Manager responded that we shouldn’t worry, we will make it up on volume. He was serious. I now use it as a joke.

Not to worry. The Rivan execs have already skimmed off millions of the start up money into their Cayman Islands accounts. They’ll be fine.
