I don’t know why we don’t declare war anymore. Perhaps there are some legal reasons we don’t do so? Then we can say such military actions are limited in scope, or some other such justification?

Is there any huge advantage if we had kept Bagram AFB by force and maintained a presence there like Gitmo in Cuba? Or would it have been redundant for the expense?

I would say there was some advantage being on the east side of Iran as well.
