‘For years they neglected to give her an upbringing in the Word.’

wellm that might be valid point if no Christian girl ever went to a bar, hooked up with a stranger, and went out partying later; but that’s a point no one is prepared to make...

If there is one thing that Proverbs teaches again and again it is to bring up children in the fear and admonition of the Lord. Our “broad-minded” parents won’t do that.

The Cayman Islands are by far the most affluent islands in the Caribbean. Followed by the British Virgin Islands.

These are the islands that other people go to work at. However, the Cayman’s have the pick of the litter so to speak. When I was there most of the your people working in the resorts were from Canada. At the time a Cayman dollar was worth 2X the Canadian. I remember a Vancouver college student said she made $40K Cayman from Dec-April after expenses the previous year. That meant $80K Canadian in 5 months. She kept her money in one of the many Cayman banks and would wire it back home via Western Union.

I was on Grand Cayman about 21 years ago. At the time their currency was worth 1.5X the US dollar. Their standard of living is higher than ours in the US. This is because it is an offshore banking mecca. A place for people who have millions of dollars hide them from their respective governments. Kind of like what Switzerland used to be.

The Caymans have zero crime. It is perfectly safe any time of the day or night to walk around. The only issue you might have there is from other tourists. It is also one of the most expensive countries in the western hemisphere. The only place more expensive in the Caribbean is St Barts. That makes Maui look cheap.

This whole story was very sad for the family and for the whole island/country of Aruba. It gave a bad name to an otherwise great place.

Aruba is not as beautiful as the Virgin Islands or some of the other volcanic Caribbean islands but it has a lot of positives.

This murder gave the place a bad rep. All because some stupid blonde bimbo got into a car with three guys she didn't know.
Something she would NEVER have done in her hometown of Birmingham, AL. Yes, I am VICTIM BLAMING. Van der Sloop is a sociopath murder that should rot in hell. But she made a STUPID mistake that cost her life and caused an economic catastrophe for Aruba.

“Yes, I am VICTIM BLAMING”

Agree. “She chose poorly”, as they say.

Van der Sloot could not be convicted for Natalee Holloway's murder because Aruba has a 12 year statute of limitations for homicide.

Best thing today was when Natalee's mom told Joran: "You look like hell." Prison life is not treating him well. He does look dreadful for a 36yo.

How about leaving judgment to the Lord God? Pretty much despicable to speak ill of a dead young woman. Perhaps she did nothing wrong, but was drugged and raped, murdered by these evil creeps…. If it was your daughter would you blame her or them?

So no one ever made good decisions without an American style Christian education?

Speaking as one whose parents failed me in this area I nevertheless agree with Moses instructions:
Listen, Israel: The LORD is our God. The LORD is the only God. Love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.
Take to heart these words that I give you today.
Repeat them to your children.
Talk about them when you’re at home or away,
when you lie down or get up.
Deuteronomy 6:4-7

(And many generations later thru Asaph's Psalm 78):
He established written instructions for Jacob’s people.
He gave his teachings to Israel.
He commanded our ancestors to make them known to their children
so that the next generation would know them.
Children yet to be born would learn them.
They will grow up and tell their children
to trust God, to remember what he has done,
and to obey his commands.
Psalm 78:5-7

Yet the modern parent thinks that he's/she's doing the child a great service by neglecting these admonitions. Instead, shared time is spent discussing sports, academics, fitness, friendships, etc. This all relates to what used to be called the "home hearth." not "Christian education" at a private academic institution.
