I guess when all one has is a hammer everything looks like a nail. Thanks for confirming that saying.

I didn’t read it that way.
I think his point is that he is measuring words & actions by DeSantis vs Trump.
He was let down in multiple ways but the death threats against his children made him reflect on his choices and priorities.
His mention about schools reacting to n* but not to Jewish kids getting death threats is meant to highlight a disparity of consequences not eliminate free speech.
He complained not about free speech but about beatings and racial targeting the elimination of which DeSantis used as a campaign opportunity in Israel but has not implemented.
I am not promoting Fine as an oracle but I do think he makes some good points about equal treatment and about talking the talk vs walking the walk.

Did you read his statement or just react. He is saying that the things DeSantis promised have not occurred. He gives specific examples: Holocaust Memorial 5 years-ground not broken and the bill DeSantis announced in Israel protecting all racial targeting.

“ Donald Trump didn't just talk about moving the Embassy. He did it. Donald Trump didn't just talk about Israeli security. He green lit them annexing the Golan. Donald Trump didn't just talk about peace. He signed the Abraham Accords. He deserved a Nobel Peace Prize for it. When he was President, Islamic countries weren't attacking Jews over there; neo-Nazis were not attacking Jews over here. Because they feared him.

The past two weeks have made me realize our choice as Jews is simple. We can vote for the Governor who says all the right things or we can vote for the President who actually does them. When it comes to action, Donald Trump has never ever let us down.”

The reason Trump is so far in front of The Dwarfs is because he has a record. The Dwarfs can't fight his record.

Except it does eliminate free speech in both cases. Instead of condemning it when the left does it to their preferred bogeymen, he wants to make sure it also applies to his preferred bogeymen.

“He complained not about free speech but about beatings and racial targeting...”

He complained about both, actually.

I have said it before:
Ron DeSantis is great as Florida Governor.
Ron DeSantis is pathetic as campaigner for Republican nomination.
Maybe those are BOTH good things.
BTW - it was pretty lame how the Florida legislature first passed a law that would make it impossible for a serving Governor to simultaneously run for President, and then they flop-flipped and made it okay. Can you say “Embarassing”?

Sure. It’s DeSantis’s fault. Does Rep. Fine have the slightest idea how idiotic he sounds?

My boss / room mate / best friend is more conservative than most of us here. And he’s 100% a tribe member.

It drives him CRAZY to see his ethnic homies so far in the bag for the commies.

Poor Randy Fine thinks that the First Amendment doesn’t apply to people who dislike or hate Jews. Hate speech is protected by the First Amendment.

I think you are confused about free speech. Freedom of speech means that the Government does not prosecute you for unpleasant speech.
There are still consequences. Your school may suspend you, your boss may fire you and your neighbors may shun you.
If your speech reaches the level of threatening violence then the civil authorities will intervene and evaluate.

True threats constitute a category of speech — like obscenity, child pornography, fighting words, and the advocacy of imminent lawless action — that is not protected by the First Amendment and can be prosecuted under state and federal criminal laws.

I’m not confused. He’s complaining about Ron DeSantis not doing anything about this speech. Ron DeSantis IS the government, lol.

I’m not confused about the 1st Amendment. By way of the 14th it would apply to state funded schools.

He is disappointed that DeSantis did not see that the law was applied equally or show any interest in doing so. I have to say that I thought the law DeSantis signed in Israel was a disgrace.
I thought it was too vague and interfered with freedom of speech, giving busy bodies a way to get back at people for speech they “found offensive”. I posted on that topic at the time.

I thought Fine was frank and his post gave a lot of insight into how Jews are responding to the increased anti semitism and 10/7. I didn’t post his comments because I agreed with all his points. Since American Jews are so often liberal I am interested to see them realizing that they are being put at risk by liberal policies. I do agree Trump has walked the walk more than DeSantis but I was more interested in how attitudes are changing.

I expect that we actually agree in principle. I think the key point is consistency. If n* is prohibited at school ethnic slurs of all kinds should be prohibited.
The consensus on Freedom of Speech in school: For example
You have the right to speak out, hand out flyers and petitions, and wear expressive clothing in school — as long as you don’t disrupt the functioning of the school or violate school policies that don’t hinge on the message expressed.

Typically, student speech, including student expression, is protected as long as it doesn’t cause a disruption at school or interfere with the rights of others. But schools can prohibit speech that’s vulgar or offensive, and sometimes even restrict speech that’s considered “inappropriate.”
