Sorry...You were talking about right at the NC/Virginia line...I haven’t gone that far up...Corolla, just south of there is where we’ve gone...
I live in Maricopa, Arizona, and we have wild horses around here that roam from Tucson all the way up to Utah. We see them on both sides of the main highway at certain times of the year. All along the highway is fenced, but the state built underpasses where the horses can cross over safely. Unfortunately, three were hit by cars and killed recently when they tried to cross over a road perpendicular to the highway that wasn’t fenced. The accident happened in the evening, which is why I avoid that particular area at night.

Nevada State Prisons have a program where talented prisoners are allowed to break & train BLM horses. Auctions are held a couple of times a year. The prisoner gets part of the proceeds.
Those horses are VERY WELL TRAINED
Corolla is the last unincorporated town. That’s where I love . Carova where the horses live is a collection of beaches (Swan, Penny’s Hill, etc). The horses - about 100 of them- live in the unpaved area. They are independent and human contact is strictly forbidden. Horses that become acclimated to humans are removed from the herd. They are amazing to see.
Yes, I gotcha...I just haven’t been farther north than Corolla...I really enjoy the OBX...All the way from Hatteras to Corolla....
