A “choice” born of convenience, not commitment.
She needs Jesus’ three-step program:
1) Deny yourself
2) Take up your cross
3) Follow Him
Praise God for a wonderful testimony!
All of us must take time to learn.
Just have her look up and read “FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND”.
BUMP
Ali’s thesis “The Challenge of Dawa” didn’t get much press, but it is a thorough and chilling testimony on the subversive effort of Islam to convert the disaffected, as she was, and lead them into the arms of the jihadist mindset.
Welcome home Ayaan.
This.
“The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” — that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved... - Romans 10: 8-9
Wow...this article really made me think. I’ve gone through many changes and stages of life during my time on earth and one thing I know...the older we get and the closer to our deaths we are, the more we look to God and faith. Some people have that early on in life but a lot of us don’t.
Agree with you. She has a riveting story to tell about her journey and this was well worth the read. A compelling case for Christ.
She needs to be properly catechized (hopefully in a canonical Orthodox Church) and baptized!! Then comes Chrismation and the Holy Eucharist!
Then she will be a Christian! May God bring her to real Christianity!
Sourcing Holland gives me pause (an athiest who recognizes the impact of Christianity but applies it arbitrarily to such incoherent ideas as Marxism), but quoting Chesterton gives me hope.
She has had an interesting intellectual journey.
I’m afraid that many Christian churches have been infected by leftism at the top of their hierarchy. She may be disappointed by what she hears on Sunday.
I think the left, broadly speaking, has obtained an undeserved credence. Darwin, Freud, Marx. Each had a great impact on our culture. Probably all three sold bunk and nonsense. Simply erasing their impact takes us a long way forward. More modern woke ideology and environmental alarmism must also be rejected as just more junk/fake science.
It looks like the universe was fine-tuned for our existence. That is telling. Looking to yourself, self-awareness, free-will and a sense of right and wrong, point to something other than material reductionism. Billions of people can say “I am.” How can we blithely deny the possibility of a great “I am”?
Another question is “why believe in Christianity?” Here are more questions. Why didn’t early church martyrs recant their testimony? Why accept torture and death? I think their decision to give testimony and accept the consequences can only be explained by their having witnessed miracles, to include the resurrection of Christ.
Pope John Paul II said (paraphrasing) man ascends to heaven non wings of faith and reason. I think we need to advance the evidence for believing in God and Christianity.
I think churches need the courage to address the evils of pedophilia, sodomy, and Islam and they should do so from the pulpit. They need the clarity of thought to reject socialism and promote free markets.
Faith is great but we can also benefit from a better integration within the church of reason and faith.
Who is working on this? From the science side (distinct from the church side) I recommend the Discovery Institute.
I wish I could edit a post after making it. I almost always get something wrong! Anyway, for anyone who may have noticed, I meant to write:
man ascends to heaven on wings of faith and reason
