It was Trump's legal team that filed the initial appeal through the normal appellate court channel, so I don't see why they would need time to add anything that isn't already in the original appeal.
Also, this is just a motion to consider jurisdiction in the matter, not the actual appeal itself.
Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law.
Trump was NOT convicted, thus he is NOT subject to indictment for the thing the Senate cleared him of. That would be the whole J6 conspiracy hoax.

Describing the case as presenting a “fundamental question at the heart of our democracy,” Special Counsel Jack Smith asked the Supreme Court on Monday to decide early next year, without waiting for a federal appeals court to weigh in, whether former President Donald Trump can be tried on criminal charges that he conspired to overturn the results of the 2020 election. “[G]iven the weighty and consequential character of the constitutional questions at stake,” Smith contended, “only this Court can provide the definitive and final resolution” of Trump’s “immunity claims that this case demands.”
In a decision on Dec. 1, U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan rejected Trump’s claim that he cannot be prosecuted. But because Trump’s appeal of that ruling puts his trial, scheduled for Mar. 4, 2024, on hold, Smith argued, the Supreme Court should nonetheless weigh in as quickly as possible so that the trial can go forward if he is not entitled to immunity.
Trump was indicted on Aug. 1. He sought to have the charges against him dismissed on two different grounds. First, he contended, he cannot be prosecuted for acts that were part of his responsibilities as president. Second, he argued, and in any event, he cannot be prosecuted in this case because he had already been impeached, but not convicted, in 2021 on charges arising from the same conduct.
After Chutkan denied Trump’s request, Trump appealed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and sought to put all proceedings in the trial court on hold until his appeal is resolved.
It is just moving Trump’s appeal of the lower court decision directly up to the Supreme Court.
I think that may be a misreading of that clause. It appears that this clause was included to clarify that the fact that someone who was convicted of an impeachment did not preclude him from being prosecuted in a criminal trial for the same acts. In other words, double jeopardy does not apply, since impeachment is not a criminal trial. So if double jeopardy does not apply when a party is tried, convicted and punished in an impeachment proceeding, how can it apply when the party is not convicted or punished? It seems that any criminal charges exist apart from any actions taken by Congress during an impeachment. There are a lot of good arguments to be made against what Smith is doing, but this is not a strong one, IMHO.

The SCOTUS is giving Trump about a week.
Why not give him til Jan 5th, when they reconvene?

After years of assembling datapoints around the potential for the Supreme Court to be compromised, it was the discovery of Mary McCord’s husband Sheldon Snook deep in the office of Chief Justice John Roberts that finally sealed the deal for me personally. Yes, the Supreme Court is compromised.
Quick Context. Mary McCord was the architect of all Trump targeting efforts. The FISA on Carter Page, the weaponization of the DOJ-NSD, the installation of Michael Atkinson as Intelligence Community Inspector General (ICIG), the companion to Sally Yates in the Flynn targeting, lead staff for the Schiff/Nadler impeachment effort, later appointment by FISA Presiding Judge Boasberg to be amicus to the FISC, in combination with Chief Justice John Roberts holding authority over the FISC, and the discovery that Sheldon Snook, McCord’s husband works in Robert’s office as “special assistant to Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr.’s counselor. The counselor’s office advises the chief justice not only on the management and budget of the Supreme Court but also on his interactions with the executive and legislative branches, along with numerous other public roles in which Roberts serves.” (link)
Mary McCord is the fulcrum point for all of the above issues. She connects all of the targeting operations. Mary McCord is the center of it, and John Robert’s office is compromised by the appointment of her husband Sheldon Snook. So, this story below does not surprise me.
Special Prosecutor Jack Smith jumped over the appeals court and asked the Supreme Court to decide on President Trump’s position of presidential immunity for his requests to secure the integrity of the 2020 election while in office. In the fastest turn around time in history, the Supreme Court [Robert’s office] said yes, they will hear the arguments.

It’s bypassing the Judicial process.
They’ve ruled against Trump privilege repeatedly and very quickly.
As they do with Trump, they don’t even have to hear the case.

The SCOTUS fully understands the only motive here is to get Trump before he wins the Nomination.
That’s Prosecutorial abuse - and Smith should be disbarred.
Show me a precedent for a high Court rushing at this speed.
Roberts bought Irish babies and circumvented law.
