My mistake.

I transfixed on .00 but not the gauge.

12 gauge will give one nine .33 balls. Full stop.

Not the .410.

LOVE the KSG.

Go-to for body armor.

This is great. Thank you.

I like the birdshot video.

I like empirical analysis. Steaks, ribs, and chickens are more compelling than gel.

What type of shotgun shells did the military use for clearing buildings in Iraq ?

Hard to imagine a shotgun slug can shoot 100 yds with hardly any type of accuracy. I would think 50yds is about max.

Thanks. I was trying to figure it out for .410 and it didn’t seem to work. I only have a 12-gauge, but I basically always shoot 7 1/2 or 8 shot for dove and quail.

I’m really tempted to get a side-by-side, always wanted one, and I might go 20-gauge for that.

That’s it, right there. A nice spread when nervous versus a perfect shot. Buckshot all the way.

go with the buckshot... itll give you the satisfaction of racking it again and giving the perp another blast. a slug will put too big a hole all at once... just sayin...

Good comparison. Both destructive. I sure would not want to be in the path of either.

With good sights a shotgun can place slugs on a 8x11 at a 100 with out trouble.

Done it many times.

For in-home defense, where the risk of over penetration is heightened, and the need for stopping power is also high, bird shot makes a lot of sense.

The birdshot video in E Pluribus’ post has the added benefit of a wallboard backstop, to assess the possibility of hitting loved ones on the other side of the wall.

And as you note, the bad Guy likely won’t be home for Christmas.

I don’t keep a round in the chamber as I think racking it will deter most half-sane people.

#4 buck really lack penetration over 20 yards.

Having seen thousands of rounds of buck fired I prefer 00 out of a tighter choke.

The .410 offers a solid slug and two .36” balls per round in a 2 1/2” shell... I’m still looking for a self-defense round in .410 gauge, that is 3” in length.

Between the two, only the slug at 1800fps or better can kill a person wearing body armor. No need to penetrate. The energy released turns internal organs into pudding.

All that technical and scientific info is wonderful, of course. But, I come from the old school. As a LEO, back in the day, we carried Winchester 12-ga Shotguns in our cruisers, in quick access mounts, next to the console. I took my home load from that installation...
My Mossberg 500 home defense shotgun is loaded, alternating double ought (00) and deer slug, with a deer slug out first.
Just makes sense. No need to over think it.
It has served me well.

For a .410 shell, buckshot is 3 pellets of 000 buckshot. That is what you would be able to shoot in a Taurus Judge. They do not get much velocity in a revolver barrel and since the .36 diameter pellets are going down a .452 barrel they do not tend to have good accuracy or tight patterns.
