Might be a nothing burger, but then again...so I posted it. We'll see.

Legitimately time for Israel to go full whoop-ass on Iran.

This will cause the price of oil to skyrocket as the Suez becomes unusable.

Which of course benefits Iran and it’s boyar-buddies in Moscow.

You’ve got to think if the drone was launched from inside Iran and hit a ship off the coast of India, that’s fairly sophisticated targeting.
They’re plenty of ships out there, I suppose they are using some type of AIS identification that was used by the drone to zero in on that particular ship, regardless it’s fairly impressive.
The coalition of Naval Assets is falling apart as multiple NATO countries have refused to go along with the US to counter all this drone activity.

An EMP device would curtail most if this activity.

True, that’s why I mentioned the AIS system, it’s still pretty sophisticated from that distance.
The use of drones in modern warfare has change how battles are fought on land and now the sea, some type of counter measure needs and ultimately will get developed that doesn’t cost a million dollars per missile versus a drone that costs a few thousand.

In the short run they can just bomb the launch site and everything related to the drones using old fashioned boombs.
Power bomb the state actors.

On a side note, vessels can choose to turn AIS off.

This was in the Indian Ocean. Suez is between the Red Sea and the Med, and Yemen is on the far side of KSA, not opposite the Suez.

Apparently, the connection of this ship with Israel is tenuous at best. It’s the thought that counts, ultimately. But this was not Pearl Harbor.

Are you following the news lately?
20 countries are signing on to participate - that include both NATO (France, Canada, Denmark, etc.) and non-NATO (Australia)

Perhaps a low-cost version of the Phalanx CIWS gatling gun that merchant ships can afford? In the days of fighting sail no merchant ship of any size traversed the Indian Ocean without a battery of cannon. Same reason - Muslim pirates. Wouldn't have to be 20mm. Probably .30 caliber would do for those flimsy drones.
