What’s been the “evolution” (or de-evolution) in Compton over the decades? Compton/Watts were bad ‘hoods 50+ years ago.
They make fine calendars as well. I just put up 2024’s in the tool room adjacent to the garage.
My great aunt, who was blatantly racist, lived for some time in Compton in the 50s. Liked it quite well. She and my uncle later moved up to L.A. and as time passed, Compton became a black city. During the riots of the 60s people back east were shocked to see how nice Compton looked compared to eastern slums—nice homes, yards, etc.
As more time passed, blacks found themselves being pushed out of Compton by Mexicans. They didn’t like it one bit, all talk of ‘people of color’ notwithstanding. Compton was ‘theirs’ historically. Only problem with that was that Compton was whites-only at its founding.
They need to borrow instructions from the former mayor Daley, “shoot to ki**”
I think that might explain it to the looters in a way they would understand.

When my aunt had to leave her home after the 1933 Long Beach Earthquake, her family stayed for a few days in a cabin in Santa Ana Canyon. There, she met my father’s brother, and they fell in love. Their marriage lasted for more than six decades.
Compton was a farm and dairy town before WWII, and then the oil industry generated an influx of Okies and Texans, including the Bushes. Then the blacks moved in, particularly after open housing legislation passed in the sixties. There are still a lot of blacks in Compton, but they are being replaced by newcomers from south of the border. The same thing is happening in Watts, which was once virtually all-black but is now mostly Latino.
south central LA, compton, watts even the san fernando valley is all hispanic now, the blacks moved to the inland empire and lancaster.
The 605 freeway, running from Duarte to Long Beach, used to be called the White Fence because communities east of the freeway were mostly white. Now, it’s the Newport Freeway, running from Orange to Costa Mesa that is the new White Fence.

It’s really sad. Thug mentality will come up will all kinds of ways to break into a place in order to pillage, never channeling its ‘ingenuity’ toward anything good.
Heh — right now I’m watching a squirrel positioned at the top of a tube bird feeder, determined to get access.
He’s really clever and motivated, using his nose to pry up the lid.
Of course what eludes him is the fact that he won’t fit down the tube to reach the seed.
