I used to listen a lot to shortwave radio in the 70s and 80s and the feeling among listeners at that time was that we were likely to have files because we sent reception reports to stations such as Radio Moscow. (I sent reports to the BBC and Radio Canada and Deutsche Welle, too.) I used to get a quarterly schedule by mail from Radio Havana long after I stopped sending reports. I am positive that my file has thickened as I have pursued other potentially offensive interests, but my interests are so eclectic that the authorities are probably scratching their heads over who I am. My Kindle contains “Mein Kampf” and Marx and the Koran and...the Bible (!) Well, who I am is a free man with endless curiosities and an autodidact who poses no threat to anyone except the paranoid who think that curiosity is a crime, and I intend to stay that way.
