Back in the late 20;s and early thirties project like Bagnell Dam in the Ozarks was constructed and poor people were hired to work on it. No Freebies. I had 2 uncles that worked on that dam for about $20 a week. They sent the money home for Grandma.
These days God forbid that we would make the welfare crowd work..
The Cathedrals were financed by the Catholic Church for the same reasons in Europe.

This Texan knew this freebie was happening around the country but didn’t know it was in uber woke Austin. Not the least bit surprised.

Noticed the author couldn’t resist including “gentrified”. If they can’t afford living in gentrified neighborhoods, then move - yeah, crazy idea.

Zip, zero, nada on how the participants spent the money which says everything you need to know. I could sure use an extra $12k. Wonder if they pay income tax on that.

About the last government program that had any value at all was the Civilian Conservation Corps. The CCC constructed many parks, national monuments and hiking trails that we still use today

Typical result when a big city turns from red to blue. They probably used the money they gained from defunding police to pay for this.

60% went to housing.

Did these genius recipients develop a plan for the day the money dries up?

except for alaska (which really shouldn’t be lumped in this discussion) no mention of where the money comes from.

Stockton Ca. started this mess but they used private funds (you eventually run out of other people’s money)
the rest seem to be using fed funds.

I wonder why the IRS doesn’t question why there are no taxes taken ?

arg...I missed this: Of the 135 slots in the program, 85 were funded by the city, while the private sector funded 50."

still makes my point...where'd the city funds come from ?

On one hand, this sucks. On the other hand, the rent is too damn high. Isn’t it funny, that the welfare money ends up in the hands of Rentier Class. Kind of like medical savings plans. The government gives people a tax break so that they can give the money to wealthy doctors and the wealthy medical system. Just like all the student loan money doled out goes to wealthy white liberals at the colleges. If one were cynical, one would think that the rich people have declared war on the poor and middle classes.

Universal Basic Income is being implemented - and it’s going to be built to a much greater scale in the future.

As the Great Reset evolves into the New Order, a stated globalist vision is to “wipe out poverty.” In order to do this, they have to account for all of the people who won’t be able to work, aren’t skilled enough to work, are not healthy enough to work…etc.

Additionally, there will be healthy, educated, capable people who will not have an easy time finding employment in the new economy currently being shaped by AI.

These groups - employable and not employable - all will have basic needs of housing, food, clothing, transportation.

The creation of 15-minute cities - is not only to drive home the globalist concept of sustainability, but to create livability for those who will need a safety net. That group will be substantial.

All of the layoffs in the news recently actually dovetail with this implementation of basic income. Layoffs normally happen as part of the economic cycle. But what we’re seeing with the substantial layoffs across many industries - is the result of the increasing use of artificial intelligence.

Also, it is a certainty that these funds originate with a handout from Feds — freshly printed bills that increase your inflation.
