34 trilion.

At this point what difference does it make? The country is toast. That debt will never be paid off. So I don’t really care who picks the bones as the body is already dead. Maybe the corpse can give life to more worthy nation. Circle of life and all that...

Oh, the deep state ain’t gonna’ like that.
******************************************************
Won’t bother them a bit.

Trump is playing semantics calling give away foreign aid “loans”. All aid will become “loans” with indefinite terms and he knows these countries aren’t going to pay back anything. He just wants to placate his base. This is the same word game BS that the Dhimmicrats do.

And just for the record, if all the money I paid into social security over my lifetime had been paid into a low risk investment I’d have a lot more money than social security will ever pay me in my lifetime. And Medicare is insurance you pay for throughout your working life. You’re right that that free for a and a couple hundred for b doesn’t seem like that much, but that doesn’t count all the money you paid for it while you were working. Again. Check your W-4 form.

“Those payments are right there on my W-4 form.”

Yes, you are making payments.
But it doesn’t pay the full cost of what you get.
Those costs are paid by everybody else.
Half of Medicare funding comes from General Revenue, another 1/3 from current payroll taxes, even from those who do not currently get the benefit.

(Actually not being paid at all right now, as the Federal Debt has been exploding for decades).

So it’s as much of a “Welfare” benefit as any other Transfer Payment, just to an electorally powerful and protected class.

The Social Good of old age healthcare and old age pensions are important topics for public debate, and voters consent.
Medicare for all is one floated by Progressives.
Major increases in HSA’s and other savings plans are from the Right.

As noted in my post one side is: “I paid into it, and I deserve mine!”

Peace to you my frined.

A couple of things: First, I’m no longer making payments. I finally retired. Second, what you just described above is how insurance works. Third, if I had put into a private savings account what I put into social security I’d have a LOT more to retire on than what SS pays. i.e. my payments DID pay the cost of what I get.

However, there is a problem. Specifically, it costs a fortune to keep us old people alive. And no, medicare payments do not cover it. We’ve reached a point where if peope live long enough, pretty much all of them will need medical attention that will cost into the hundreds of thousands to cover. Take my case. I had an undetected birth defect that became an emergency about 12 months ago. My aortic valve only had two flaps. And my blood flow got down to about 15%. It came on very fast and the surgery was pretty much an emergency thing. That is, they moved the date up twice, and while I was “living” for a few weeks in the hospital. The final hospital bill for the stay was ~$352k. Medicare A, which comes “free” with SS, in that I paid for it my entire working career, covers that cost to a point.

But here’s the awesome part: Medicare covered $350k. Like most insurance plans when used, my payments didn’t cover that amount.

But there was also the cost of the surgeon, his team, etc. That came to about $150k. And I had opted out from Medicare plan B. I owe that. And I’m making monthly payments. And it is strictly between me and the hospital, and the government is not involved. Fortunately, it is the only debt I have. Comically, my SS income is so high that I do not qualify for any assistance (we get a couple hundred a month from an old pension as well). But the ultra comical part is that I was advised by friends in the medical industry how to handle this and it worked. I’m 70 And I will make monthly payments to the hospital for the rest of my life. $10* a month. 🤣

*We actually are paying $100 a month, but apparently the $10 a month figure is a real minimum. We “volunteer” the other 90. At least we’re paying more than the illegals that get it for free. 😆
