This policy is supposedly based on their beliefs about global warming. The following is tangential to the topic of autos but definitely related.
I have been spending some time lately learning more about interglacials periods. We are in the Holocene and this current interglacial stared about 11K+ years ago. Our CO2 level is 420. The previous interglacial was the Eemian over 110K years ago.
What I find interesting about the previous interglacial period is CO2 levels were only 280 yet the temps were 1.5C higher and the seas were 10m higher than today. So long before gas guzzling autos temps and sea levels much higher.
We’ve known that but the point is one doesn’t have to go back to the dinosaurs. Just look at the last interglacial a bit over 100K years ago.
