“Yet Jaguar-Land Rover, despite high prices and relatively poor quality, is selling everything produced, including the 400-500+ horsepower models.”

I’m guessing that’s for three reasons. The Jaguar and Land Rover buyer is a lot wealthier than the Stelantis buyer. Stelantis is, by comparison, a generic car. As in nothing special even with 500 horsepower. And two, Jaguar and Land Rover have a “reputation” as luxury for the rich. And third, luxury buyers don’t buy to own. They lease. So, when the bad build quality kicks in the buyer has moved on to a new vehicle. I saw an engineer demonstrating the exotic features on a Mercedes and he said, “They don’t build these to last twenty years. Their buyer is leasing and all they want to do is make it through the lease period with minimal maintenance. You won’t be able to buy the parts or even the diagnostic tools to fix this car for twenty years of ownership.” I suspect there’s zero overlap between Stelantis and Jaguar buyers.

You could go so far as to call this a “bloodbath”.

FWIW, I love the Maserati brand but I could never force myself to own one. Even when I only lived a few miles from the dealer.

Eight grade girls are running the world. All we need is unicorn farts and magic beans and everything will be fine.

The average new car transaction price in the United States is around $49,000. And because of the new UAW contract, I don’t see that price going down.

Wait a little bit, and the Chinese will be selling cars in the USA for $15,000. They would like to sell them for $10,000 but tariffs will force them to sell them for more, but they'll still make a profit. /s

Bingo. I work in the life sciences department of a major machine maker. I won’t even touch automotive work.

Nope. The assembly process is pretty similar whether your machine makes car parts or medical devices. Same PLC, same network, same pneumatics, servos & robotics.

People will be forced to go with EVs.

Too expensive. Only Mayor Pete can afford to buy an EV. Everyone else will take the bus.

It's our fault for allowing this to happen. One thing we can do about it is to stop sending our kids to public schools. Instead we'll home school them.
