And from benefitting from those Social Security windfalls.
I have absolutely no sympathy for someone who would want to vacation in Cuba.
First world problems.
One of the fundamental keys to success in life, especially financial success, is getting married. This has always been true.
Sounds like ANOTHER uneducated young person has DISCOVERED that "LIFE ISN"T FAIR!"... well, I'll be!
Always has been more expensive to live alone. I did it for 10 years. You survive. I certainly would not blame taxes! Maybe she should find a roommate.
Never been but I'd suspect Cuba has a special area just for tourists where they hide their communist poverty out of sight.
Or a husband.
But this would require becoming an adult and these people don't want to do this. They want to be 22 forever (only with travel money).
Married first time at 18.
2 marriages== less than 44 months together.
Have been single almost all of my 84 years.
OWN all my real estate-—vehicles-—personal property, including horse & dog.
Had some interesting relationships-—but prefer being able to make my own decisions.
ALSO-—I KNOW WHERE SOMETHING IS BECAUSE I AM THE ONLY ONE IN THE HOUSE/GARAGE. I HATE having to search for something someone else had last.
“I certainly would not blame taxes!”
Article is not about taxes!
I had two friends post-college who were old-money “trust fund babies.” They were very kind, low-key and well-bred people. But living solely by my own work and means, I simply couldn’t keep up with them in terms of going out to dinner, going on vacations, etc...
It wasn’t their problem - it was MY problem. I had to overcome my own ego and my own desires to “keep up.”
Once I recognized that, everything was fine. I’m still friends with these people to this day.
Today, many young people are saturated with "influencer" culture and believe that "luxury lifestyles" should not only be attainable, but that they're entitled to live them.
WHAT is a “situationship”???????
First-world problems
I read through the entire article and what they are calling a “singles tax” seems to be nothing more than the fact that single people don’t have anyone to share expenses with. I have sympathy for young people who are faced with high costs of living that people in the past did not face. Its true that the average young person can’t remotely afford a house and would struggle to pay the cost of raising more than one child in a lot of areas. That’s a government policy issue. People can choose to remain single. That is fine. But that means you have to pay for everything yourself. That’s not a “tax.”
In fact, a 2023 survey of singles and coupled adults by Forbes Advisor found that one-third had stayed in a relationship longer to reap the financial benefits, while 93% of singles feel financially burdened by their relationship status.
Wish that they had disaggregated those figures by sex - I'm sure that the (disparate) findings would have been bombshells.
Regards,
I think I see why Celine is single.
