Don't forget those who were screened because they wouldn't sign onto the women's ordination bandwagon.

You're exactly right, Brad. The SSPX-ers got the heave ho in Lincoln just like the CTA types. I of course think he went a little too far with the SSPX, but I gotta admire his principles and hardline, no-BS stance.

Bp. Bruskewitz definitely has a set.

It occurs to me that if the majority of bishops in America had views and attitudes similar to Bruskewitz, there'd be no need for the SSPX.

For the record, patent's real name is not Brad. I was confusing him with someone else.

What a dork I am sometimes! LOL!

That’s just it. The Church indicates that the Society’s Mass is valid, but illicit. Similar to how the Church views the Orthodox Church’s Masses. That is, you can attend if there is no valid Catholic Mass nearby. So, if you live in a diocese like Hawaii, where there may not be a valid Mass, it might be OK to go to the SSPX. But in Bishop Bruskewitz’s diocese one would be hard pressed to say there are no valid Masses. The Church indicates that a preference for Latin is not a good enough reason to go Society, just like a preference for Greek would not be a good enough reason to go Orthodox. So, where there are valid Masses, he has every reason to clear up the confusion and make their status clear to the faithful.

Thanks for the post. I can only think that the condition of the Catholic Church in this country is to make orthodox Catholics humble. In general the Church looks secular, kitchy and pathetic. We had a couple of priests ordained this year and one appears to actually be a well catechized Catholic, one I don't know anything about and the third lisps through Mass and used the word "duppa" four times in his sermon as he tried to connect with the youth.

In case you don't know what the word means I think its an old ethnic term for "behind". It must be since he was referring to needing a kick on it. I felt very sad and wince everytime he lisps. Because of the awful problem I think it is the height of poor judgement to place a person who appears so feminine in the priesthood at this time. It is also a terrible thing to do to the majority of priests who have to bear the stigma of being identified as a priest with the publicity the ever increasing lawsuits bring to them and the Church. To say nothing of the parishioners who have to foot the bills for damages or increased insurance expenses.

And to the man named Sinkspur, don't start in about the married priests, studies show you are probably wrong but in any case the Church cannot loosen one more thing at this time,it must clean up and regain its integrity in order to go forward with the mission entrusted to it by Christ. We need to listen more closely to the Holy Father and the Magisterium and give as much allegience and respect and obedience to our Bishops as they give to the Holy Father.

May God bless Bishop Meyers and his new diocese, many of us in this large western diocese had hoped our Bishop would resign and we would get one like him. Oh well.

"He doesn't like to listen to the other side."

Welcome to the East Coast, Bishop Myers. Your resume sounds superb and your critics serve as your best references. They have forgotten, there is no "other side" in Catholicism.

I pray when my current bishop leaves, is removed or retires (how much longer, Lord?), we get one like Myers.

We could certainly use Bishop Myers in Baltimore. Cardinal Keeler is a VERY liberal, arrogant, politician who thinks he should be Pope!

What "studies?" There are no "studies" on married Catholic priests because there are so few of them. Every poll taken indicates that American Catholics would welcome married priests, just as they welcome married deacons.

As far as "loosening," is concerned, you wouldn't have to cringe at your "lisping" young priest if you had a wider selection of men to call to the priesthood.

Bishop Myers is a great Catholic bishop! I wish he could have been appointed out here in California!

I don't understand this article. It seems like all the 'problems' with this Bishop involve his refusal to cave in to the forces bent on destroying the Church....

May God bless him!

Adding articles to the Catholic list (a slight bias and shameless bump, too!)
