However, you have no idea what you are talking about. The "coven" only had the arrogance to claim they were supported by Jim, and you know what their reasoning was? "Jim never told us to stop". If that's the hook you want to hang your statement AND your coat on, be my guest.

What the heck are you smoking tonight? Whatever it is, it has drastically affected your memory.

The pre-'99 threads were a casualty of the LAT/WP lawsuit. The non-LAT/WP articles of that time can be restored, but each must be reviewed for LAT/WP content.

Those articles were posted before a database index of sources existed.

where he told fellow FReepers he suffered from “serious withdrawal pains.”

HA! Serves him right. What goes around comes around, thank you very much. =)

The "coven" only had the arrogance to claim they were supported by Jim, and you know what their reasoning was? "Jim never told us to stop".

And, if you'll remember, this came out during the Bush/Heroin thread wherein Jim admitted the primary reason he hadn't called them publicly on it was because he was embarrassed for them and their behavior.

He's a good guy. He can't help that. Were he the hardass folks assume he is, he probably wouldn't get himself into such agonizing jams.

Constructive comments most welcome, particularly those aimed at improvements you think are needed.

Please! Please! Please!

We need an ignore button. After witnessing the the blind faith in LEO's of a select crew and thier efforts to suppress any investigation into the Charlie Foxtrot also known as the James Beck case I was sickened by the celebratory attitude of the prostatist government apoligists at another suspect being needlessly burned alive, not to mention the needless loss of the sherif's deputy.

If FR allows this prostatist disruption of threads, turning threads seeking information into sniping attacks thereby redirecting the entire thread the least we can expect is an ignore button.

I'm turned off.

We need an ignore button.

Nah ... they serve a useful function of reminding us always how deluded even the Good Folks are.

Perhaps you'd be interested in the 12-Step program wherein you can slowly accustom yourself to ignoring and/or patiently addressing the "statists"?
(except for Sinkspur of course ... he doesn't believe in "flames" so for him there is no such thing ... flame away! =)

Or, if you're made of stronger stuff, you can Fast-Track it by redirecting your home page URL to the latest Guild or "Pictures of the President" thread. I suggest strongly you take the former option so as to thereby calibrate your blood pressure with a cup of tea and deep breaths of fresh flowers and fresh lemony scent before posting.

Best of luck in "taking all comers". I hate the idea of censorship, actually, barring something truly egregious. Without the statists, we'd have no reason to repeat ourselves and repost the Facts, ad infinitum!

I have been here on an off from near the beginning, between serious personal commitments, and honest-to-God exhaustion at dealing with the brutal thrust of our opposition, and FR has been not only my primary source of news and cross-fired public opionion, but my dearest outlet whenever I had to simply "get it off my chest", as it were. And I'm thankful for that.

So whether it makes any difference what I personally believe, or not, I support the effort at hand for back end moderation and relief for JimRob.

That need was made fairly plain to me as early as the DC impeachment rally, where loyal Freepers manned the threads until they were exhausted, while JimRob was away. The disruption was so vicious that virtually no serious discussion was possible. There's not only no question in my mind that moderators are desirable, but plainly necessary.

And in spite of the incredible effort at disruption, whether by possible payrolled facilitators, ideology dupes, or simply digruntled maniacs, somehow FR survives.

Thanks, Admin Moderator, and to the rest of the crew. I'm sure JimRob has done his best to insure a fair minded group. God knows the rest of the world of communications, the media in particular, has their share of highly paid disinformation specialists, to more than counter any unfair possibility here at FR.

"If you try to get them to make me read your funnies..."

If you will simply do it voluntarily, then I will not have to force you to do it. (That line sounds familiar. Have I heard it somewhere before???) parsy.

This is the best site on the web, and I thank Jim Robinson for his vision and his wisdom. Now it would appear that there are many more of you to thank for doing what must often be a thankless task! We appreciate all that you do for us! BTTT

"an ignore button"

Now wouldn't that be nice! I'll pass along the thought.

"the incredible effort at disruption"

gets pretty ugly and hot at times, but thanks to new tools and more people helping Jim, they don't last long now.

Thanks for your vote of confidence. Moderators are needed here, for the simple reason that, as one long-time moderator noted, we have to assume the job of kindergarten-teacher too often. ;-)

"a thankless task!"

Thanks brat. It's really not thankless, Jim thanks us all the time. If we make him happy, and folks like you, we're quite pleased.

No matter how unobtrusive we would be, just our existence alone is enough to rile a few. They ignore the fact that this is private property, not a public board or one of the faceless 'news' groups running unattended on a server somewhere. Here there are house rules, set by the owner, and common courtesy is in order. Those who spit on Jim's hospitality need appropriate escort to the door - and will get it. They won't thank us, but Jim will, and so will the majority here like yourself.
