FreeRepublic Fundraiser -- Important -- FreeRepublic NEEDS Your Help! (Thread 44)
thread 43 ^ | 8/31 -- 9/5/2001 | Topaz & Ron C.

Posted on 09/11/2001 5:30:15 AM PDT by firewalk

It will be very easy for you to say, "Well, I will do something, some day. When I can afford it, I am going to." But would you let an old "grad" tell you one thing now? Giving is a habit. Get into the habit now, because you will never be able to afford to give and contribute, thus to repay the obligation you owe to those people who made this college possible, if you wait until you think you can afford it. Start now regardless of how small, and in the days to come when you are confronted with demands for many worthwhile causes and charities I think you will find that you will give dutifully to all the worthy ones. But here and there you will pick one or two that will be favorites, and you can do no better than to pick this, your Alma Mater, because you will not only be repaying your own personal obligations, you will be making your contribution to the very process which has made and continues to keep America great.
This democracy of ours which sometimes we've treated so lightly, is more than ever a comfortable cloak, so let us not tear it asunder, for no man knows once it is destroyed where or when he will find its protective warmth again. - Ronald Reagan

Help keep the dream alive!

Imagine if there was no Free Republic... gasp!

- No Sore Loserman protests to save an election...

- No Washington Times Ad pushing Congress to Impeach...

- No exposing of traitorous public officials...

- No media watchdog to ferret out the bias...

- No Breaking News...

For these reasons and a thousand others, please support Free Republic

While the large donations are exciting, the small ones may be more treasured ...... they may actually be sacrificial. So don't be reluctant to give if your donation can only be $5 or $10 ..... those are vital to the success of FR. And bumps help, too! :-) - posted by WillaJohns -

Free Republic is a user supported website that runs off the brains, experience, energy, and yes, the cash, of freepers and lurkers. It is an undeniable fact that Free Republic has been instrumental in stopping the liberals with their socialist agenda, and keeping up the fight for conservative causes and against corruption in government.

If you feel strongly that Free Republic has made a difference and you want to see it continue on, please send in a donation of whatever your heart moves you to send.

I am very disappointed to hear that we still haven't met your challenges, and taken your donation! I'm glad you'll give us another chance with a new challenge though. Let's see if we can do better this time. In case I'm not online-make your challenge to any of the regulars on the fundraiser threads, and we'll see what we can do. Thank you!

Thanks for the new thread. As you saw on the last thread, I failed in my attempt at a Fair Funkle. It occurs to me that the rules for "Fair Funkeling" have not been recently posted so I shall do so in just a few moments.

This is the last updated Tally from a previous thread. A new one will be posted later on.

Freepathon State Scoreboard

This scoreboard displays how much each of the united States, Government Districts, Territories, Possessions, and other nations have contributed to the Freepathon. (Contrary to what you might think, foreign nations actually do contribute lots of cash...more than some of the States!)

Here are the rules: When you donate to Free Republic (can be done via secure server here, or by a postal address to follow), include your state of origin. When BADJOE posts your donation on the thread with your state, it will be credited to your state in subsequent updates of the list. (Your name or screenname is never revealed by us.) All donations without a location will be credited to the Unknown State, and all states with zero donations from residents of that state will be marked in sissy pink. Requests to put your state, of any donation status, on the sissy pink list will be honored. Foreign countries are granted "diplomatic immunity" from the sissy pink treatment.

Numbers in parenthesis - ( ) - are the number of FReepers who have claimed this location in their FR profile. This in NO WAY reflects the total number of registered FReepers.

The top five ranked states get their state's name in any color they choose. Pending color selection, the top five ranked states will get interim colors picked by me, to make it look nice. If you want to change it, just ask, and it will on the next update of the list.

YOU can immediately put your home state or country on the top of the list NOW! Click HERE to donate to Free Republic via a secure server, or send those checks to:

Rules for Funkeling.

In order to score a Fair Funkle on Free Republic, a FReeper must observe the following rules:

1) The thread chosen must have been active within 1/2 hour prior to declaring an attempt.
2) The FReeper must delare a "Fair Funkle" attempt in his/her first post.
3) The FReeper must post count downs from 4 to 1 (the declaration post counts as the first post) at no less than 5 minute intervals.
4) It is the duty of any freeper seeing the declaration to post a "bump", thus ending the attempt.
5) The successful FReeper may, at the fifth and last post, declare in any derisive terms desired, "I did it! A Fair Funkle!"
6) Scoring of Fair Funkles will be by a jury of FReeper peers (the Funkle Committee), and will include: time intervals between count down posts, total time consumed and thread popularity prior to the Fair Funkle.
7) Scoring disputes will be decided by the Funkle Committee and may not be appealed.
8) The awarding of the annual Fairest Funkle Of Them All trophy will be decided by the Funkle Committee.

Here you go! :-)

Seeing your beautiful dog again reminded me that I was going to post my favorite dog story for you. Here goes:

A burglar broke into a house one night. He shone his flashlight around looking for valuables. When he picked up a CD player to place in his sack, a strange, disembodied voice echoed from the dark saying, "Jesus is watching you."

He jumped out of his skin, clicked his flashlight off and froze. When he heard nothing more after a bit, he shook his head, promised himself a vacation after the next big score, then clicked the light back on and began searching for more valuables.

Just as he pulled the stereo out so he could disconnect the wires, clear as a bell he heard, "Jesus is watching you." Totally rattled, he shone his light around frantically, looking for the source of the voice. Finally, in a corner of the room, his flashlight beam came to rest on a parrot.

"Did you say that?" he hissed at the parrot.

"Yes," the parrot confessed, then squawked, "I'm just trying to warn you."

The burglar relaxed. "Warn me, huh? Who do you think you are, anyway?"

"Moses," replied the bird.

"Moses," the burglar laughed. "What kind of stupid people would name a parrot 'Moses'?"

The bird promptly answered: "The same kind of people that would name a Rottweiler 'Jesus'!"

Must one be awake to truly engage in a funkle, or can a person take a nap during the process?
