Elton: I'll only fly US jets with gun guards (I don't think there is a solution)

Elton: I'll only fly US jets with gun guards

ELTON JOHN has vowed he will only fly on an American airline again if it has armed guards.

Speaking publicly for the first time about the US disaster, the singer also urged people not to take revenge on Muslims around the world.

Elton fought back tears as he spoke of the tragedy. He said: "It is evil and devastating. They should have armed guards on planes and they should seal the cockpits. That's the only way people will fly.

"I know I wouldn't get on an American airline unless it had an armed guard."

He added: "The worst thing that could happen would be a knee-jerk reaction against Muslim people around the world.

"Most of them are peace-loving but you've got factions of crazy people who want this war in the name of religion. They're just scumbags.

"I don't think there is a solution - it's religious hatred.

"You see the same thing in Northern Ireland with those poor kids going to school and five-year-olds throwing stones at them. And why do they do that? Because their parents do.

"Unless you stop the hatred in parents, it's not going to end.

"It humbles us all and makes me want to go and retire to some country farmhouse. I'm sorry to say this is what the world has come to now.

"I had to switch off the TV because it was so upsetting - but life has to go on."

Elton, who has a home in Atlanta, Georgia, is certain the US will launch revenge attacks for the outrage. He added: "America will take action - this is just the start of it.

"This will change the way we live our lives. Flying won't be the same. You'll be looking over your shoulder all the time.

"These people did it with knives and razors. It was like watching the film Independence Day.

"I'm just about to get on a private jet to Malaga but it doesn't scare me. You can't let your life stop."

Nothing funny than a weeping Elton. Maybe one of the armed guards will open the door and accidently give little Elton a push.

I'd imagine he'd settle for a few Boy Scouts.

For goodness sakes, I hope he doesn't rewrite that awful "Candle in the Wind" song now.

"It was like watching the film Independence Day."

Except for the part with the aliens, and outer space. But other than that, I'm pretty sure it was like that.

Elton John is responding to tragedy with words? I would expect him to record "Candle in the Wind, V4.0.2" with all the royalties going to, uh, charity......of course.

More likely Armed Forces Radio will be blasting his out to the troops "Saturday Night's Alright (for Fighting)" as they did during the Gulf War.

Why do those who entertain us also believe that their opinions/feelings/advise/counsel/etc. should have the slightest bearing on any issue which is real-world? I know the Clintons and their ilk relied heavily on this and we see where that has brought us.

The alleged "freedom versus security" tradeoff is a false choice.

The WTC attack did not occur because Americans have too much freedom or privacy.

It occurred because:

  1. U.S. border/immigration policy (or lack of enforcement thereof) allowed known terrorists to enter and remain in the country while attending flight school.

  2. The pilots of the hijacked aircraft, for whatever reason, were persuaded to open the cockpit doors to the terrorists.

The fact that William Cohen, Dick Gephardt and other statists propound that the only solution to terrorism is to "trade freedom for security" demonstrates that their true agenda is to curtail freedom.

Exactly, dear Elton, why we must wage war. We turned Japan into a peace loving nation, and we can do the same for a few others. Take them over, stop the violence, and teach peace and humanity. Simple, but it still starts with war.

Cant you just respond to what Elton SAID, without bringing his sexuality into it?

Isn't there some rule of debate that says the first person to resort to personal attacks rather than attacking the issue at hand LOSES?

Excuse me, but didn't Mr. John just attack American parents as being full of hate. I suppose that's not a "personal attack" because he attacked us all and not just one of us?

And the fact that Mr. John is a homosexual who has never had a child would speak to his qualifications on the subject.

I am so tired of you hate-Nazis who always say "you can't say that" whenever somebody says something that they cannot refute.

We have for too long looked up to entertainers, celebrities, and athletes. The truth is now before us, it is time to give justified attention to those in uniform whether it be soldiers, police, firefighters, emergency personnel or those common citizen volunteers without uniforms who often in unnoticed ways perform the essential good.

Let singers on the stage to sing and dance, and let athletes on the field to do what they do, but do not pay much heed when they seek out the public stage apart from their particular talent to deliver words unhinged to deeds.

Looks to me like he was talking about the Muslim fundamentalist parents, and the parents of the children throwing rocks in Northern Ireland, but I would think that you are smart enough to read that too.

I am so tired of you hate-Nazis who always say "you can't say that" whenever somebody says something that they cannot refute.

All I said was that you should refute what Elton John said, not just call him names.

You could try refuting what I said as well, but I see you're better on the name-calling.

Another nonentity heard from. These clowns try to sound like experts on dietary laws, religion, war, peace, love, death, parcheesi and plastic cups. They are under the mistaken impression that anyone who has a life (and a job to do) gives a rat's butt WHAT they think. Move aside, beautiful people, because the real "A" list of heroes is soon to be taking the stage.

Sir Elton John Reggie Dwight has depended on either Disney or tragedy for his paychecks for a decade, and has had nothing musical to say in over twice that time. The world enters a very scary period and someone shoves a mike in front of this hack? Sheesh. What media outlet has a piece of him (no double-entendre meant)? He's like those game show panelists of "television's golden age" who did this or that sometime in the distant past and got free rides in perpetuity because they had connections. Overrated lounge singers never die- they just become increasingly irrelevant.

Ed (an Elton John fan until 1976)

He's just trying, like Bill Clinton, to still be significant. He hasn't gotten over Mick Jagger being voted the sexiest senior citizen!

Godwin's Law prov.

[Usenet] "As a Usenet discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one." There is a tradition in many groups that, once this occurs, that thread is over, and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically lost whatever argument was in progress. Godwin's Law thus practically guarantees the existence of an upper bound on thread length in those groups.

While I certainly don't think much about his lifestyle and believe it's a crappy model for our youngsters, I respect talent of all sorts. He is a musically talented fellow. And he's also PARTIALLY right on the solution.

THE ENTIRE EPISODE COULD HAVE BEEN AVERTED HAD EACH OF THOSE PLANES HAD STRONGER COCKPIT DOORS AND THOSE FOUR CAPTAINS HAD CRUMBY $300. PISTOLS IN THEIR FLIGHT BAGS!

WE SIMPLY MUST ASK OUR "LEADERS" WHY THEY DID NOT!!

AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE THAT PLAN, ASK THE SURVIVORS OF THE 5,000 FORMER AMERICANS IF THEY WOULD AGAIN TRADE THEIR LOVED ONES TO APPEASE THE OH-SO DELICATE SENSIBILITIES OF ROSIE O'DONNELL, SARAH BRADY AND THE NUTS AT HANDGUN CONTROL. ANYBODY ELSE WONDER WHY WE HAVEN'T HEARD FROM THEM SINCE 9-11?

As America continues to reel from the catastrophic events of 9/11, we need to rethink a few things:

It’s probably time to train and ARM the cockpit crews of US carriers who agree to the program. Pilots and FOs who do not want the responsibility can be exempted. It was, after all, the folks controlling the aircraft who were the targets on Terrible Tuesday.

During the rash of hijackings of a few decades ago, the feds put armed “AIR MARSHALS” on many flights. While some correctly argued that a fuselage punctured by a bullet at 35,000 feet MIGHT – repeat MIGHT bring the plane down – hijackings fell off.

One thing we know for sure about the four craft hijacked on 9/11: They ALL CAME DOWN and THEY ALL DIED!!

And to those who will inevitably – and stupidly – argue that pilots and FOs just cannot be trusted with the decision about when it’s time to pull a trigger, better tell the up to 400 folks sitting in the back that the guys up front are judgment-impaired!

Personally, I’d prefer to take my chances with a rapid decompression than watch some madman take MY flight into a building or the ground at 500 mph. That was the final experience of 266 fellow humans on 9/11. I KNOW I – like they – won’t survive that!

And pay VERY close attention to the "solutions" being offered by those in government: They are NOT talking about REMOVING the limitations they have ALREADY placed on us as individuals to DEFEND OURSELVES. They are beginning to talk about FURTHER RESTRICTIONS on our liberties and MORE GOVERNMENT! More GOVERNMENT? The same GOVERNMENT that failed so miserably in its obligation to protect citizens that 5,000 of them died like cattle in a slaughterhouse on September 11th? THAT GOVERNMENT?? </font color=red>

It’s again the old, old story: There aren’t TOO many weapons out there. It’s that the touchy-feely, warm-fuzzy PC crowd now sees to it that all too frequently, THE WRONG PEOPLE HAVE THEM!
