"The American Battle Hymn" - Anthem of Operation Noble Eagle
9/15/01 -- Remember 9/11! | An American Servicemen

Posted on 09/16/2001 9:35:02 PM PDT by American Soldier

"THE AMERICAN BATTLE HYMN"

Penned by an American soldier in Remembrance of 9/11
And in Anticipation of Operation Noble Eagle

Background: In a touching memorial ceremony demonstrating
the absolute solidarity between the peoples of America
and Britain in the bitter struggle to come, touching
renditions of The Star Spangled Banner and The Battle
Hymn of the Republic were performed bringing tears
to the eyes of both British and Americans. But the Battle
Hymn is a song rooted in a bitter fratricidal war; it's a
song of division. What we need now is a song of unity. I
have endeavored to bring the Battle Hymn up to date with the
present conflict. Out of respect for tradition, the first
verse remains in its original form.

My humble effort follows below.

God bless America. Confusion to our enemies.

------------------------------------------------------------

THE AMERICAN BATTLE HYMN

Tune: The Battle Hymn of the Republic

Lyrics:

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;
He is trampling out the vintage where grapes of wrath are stored;
He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword,
His truth is marching on.

CHORUS: Glory, glory, hallelujah! Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah! His truth is marching on.

I saw the gleaming towers when the Beast came crashing in;
I swore our foes would reap the bitter harvest of their sin;
For the light shall conquer darkess and the just will surely win,
When God is marching on!

(CHORUS)

Now hear the cries of anguish of the innocents assailed;
Recall the fallen rescuers that all mankind has hailed;
We'll show those who'd destroy us just how badly they have failed,
When we go marching on!

(CHORUS)

We felt the righteous anger as the tragic story broke;
I glimpsed the devil's countenance there grinning in the smoke;
But the evil have no inkling of the anger they provoke,
And we go marching on!

(CHORUS)

The serpents danced in joy at this sad chapter that they wrote;
With our warriors upon them we shall see if they still gloat;
As now the cry for vengeance springs from every patriot's throat,
So we go marching on!

(CHORUS)

The brave Australians quickly swore they'd join us in the ranks;
Yes Canada and Britain said "We'll both stand by the Yanks!";
And the free men of the future shall forever owe them thanks,
Let's all go marching on!

(CHORUS)

I see the quiet anger of the soldier in the field;
Until we've won our vict'ry the Marines shall never yield;
See our sailors and our airmen and the mighty sword they wield,
As one we're marching on!

This song was written by an American servicemen shortly after the attack
and is floating around military circles right now. I think we need more like this
to bolster public morale and support for our efforts. Hopefully this
song will also do something to bolster the warrior spirit of those who'll
be put to the test.

Excellent. The only verse I'd change is this:

The brave Australians quickly swore they'd join us in the ranks; Yes Canada and Britain said "We'll both stand by the Yanks!"; And the free men of the future shall forever owe them thanks, Let's all go marching on!

Substitute Japan for Canada as their support was quicker and more unconditional.

"Canada" fits better metrically, however.

Isn't it just so lovely that our forefathers left us the verses and the battle hymns that would move us, this many years, and this many cultures later. These hymns stir us from our very souls, inexplainably.

"The commitment of our fathers is the calling of our time."

President George W. Bush, National Cathedral, September 14, 2001.

Every generation of Americans has, at some point, been called upon to stand in the gap. Our hour has come. May all of us draw upon the resolve and strength shown by those passengers of that flight over Pennsylvania, who, even as they faced certain death, took that stand for freedom and liberty and sacrificed their own lives so that others might live. To do less would soil their sacrifice.

Let us not forget; we are not at war with Islam. We are at war with barbarians who pervert the sacred teachings of that great religion for their own putrid goals. Their only resemblance to civilized humanity is the fact that they walk upright.

Let us be firm in our resolve to do what must be done. No trials, no courts, no Miranda readings. No, they must be hunted down and disposed of like the rabid vermin they are.

To do less would be to stand aside and let barbarism triumph over freedom. To those to harbor and welcome this tyranny, I say to you; OVER MY DEAD BODY.

To those who, even now, are moving to stand in the gap; welcome aboard...let's send 'em to hell!

Noble Eagle is probably the prep stage operation. We should name the offensive operation against one of the tough guys who brought down the plane in PA.

I'm sure we can expect to see various things taken in and out. I expect we might see some very "colorful" versions too, if I don't underestimate the creativity of our junior personnel. hohoho.

Just a thought I have some truble singing "Shall be never left behind" how about instead of....

We vow our fallen heroes shall be never left behind

the line....

These villains hate the freedom that is rightly yours and mine

How do you think it sounds?

The commitment of our fathers is the calling of our time
These villains hate the freedom that is rightly yours and mine
With the pounding of our march and the thunder of our song.... we go marching on!

So yankees are ALL Americans again? Better inform the freepers down in the Dixie. Haven posted on this forum for over a year, you'll noticed ANYONE that they DISLIKE is repeatedly called a "yankee". They don't seem to be aware that they themselves ARE southern yankees (unless they decide to revoke their American citzenship in the near future). ;-)

Remember, southrons, 'yankees' were the ones who overthrew british tyrancy and created this country in the first place.

Interesting point, but you'll see the song is quoting folks from the Commonwealth, who universally refer to anyone from the U.S. as "Yanks."

I learned "Battle Hymn of the Republic" in elementary school in the '70's but they didn't teach us Dixie in New York. :). I don't think they sing songs that mention God anymore. "glory glory hallelujah, the teacher hit me with a ruler" were the preferred chorus.

I went down to Baltimore with a friend last night to catch his cousin's band. There wasn't much of a crowd there, in fact the whole city was a ghost town. I noticed that during one of the songs, the singer was looking at a piece of paper taped to his mic stand, obviously reading lyrics he was unfamiliar with.

After the set, he told me that they had revamped the lyrics of that song earlier in the week in response to Tuesday's attacks. He let me read the lyrics he was reading from. I liked them, so he let me keep them.

This is not a rendition of the Battle Hymn, but I think it's worth posting. I think it should be "colorful" enough for you.:)

This is the game
I place the blame
You take the heat, until you give up
I'm a persistant pr*ck
I'm gonna make you sick
And put it in your head to make you give up
In case you don't see, it wasn't meant to be
Get on your knees now listen
I'm gonna watch you go
You don't deserve to live
You f*ckrd up everything that I had

This is the night
We show our might
Did you really think that you could hurt us?
Come out and face me now
You gutless f*cking coward
And taste the blood we spill from your brothers
No guilt or shame, just pride
Laugh as we watch you try
To put out the flames on your back
I couldn't give a sh*t
About you nazi f*cks
I want your cities turned into glass

This is the fate
A crying shame
They finally got their jaws on our minds
Until it all comes down
Just for some stupid sh*t
It hardly seems that we have a choice
But sonny, show no fear
Break out the guns and gear
Fire back and watch it all burn
What doesn't kill us now
Can only make us strong

There's a bit more written, but the hand writing is illegible. The song is called "Lollipops&Guns". I can't remember the band's name.
