While somewhat off-topic for this piece, I would like to add a request: if you display the flag in any form, kindly make an effort to abide by the flag code in at least some key regards:
- Take down the flag in inclement weather unless the flag is an all-weather flag; even then, taking it down may show more respect than flying it in rain and drizzle.
- If you fly a flag from your vehicle, hem or tape the edges. I have seen dozens of flags flying from vehicles which I'm sure are less than two weeks old but look incredibly 'ratty' because their owners didn't protect the edges from fraying.
- When practical, either take down the flag at night or keep it illuminated. For flags mounted on cars, removal may be a nuisance; a flashlight in the car shining on the flag may show respect, but it may also say "steal me", so use discretion.
I appreciate the efforts people make to fly the colors, but I still find discouraging the rapidly-deteriorating condition of some of the flags people are flying. I wonder if it would be worthwhile to write a letter to the editor or call into a radio station or something?

"My daughter, who goes to Stuyvesant High School only blocks from the World Trade Center, thinks we should fly an American flag out our window. Definitely not, I say: The flag stands for jingoism and vengeance and war."
This idiot has no understanding of the flag or history. She's stuck in the 60's. I imagine her narrow minded hypocrisy will not allow her to see the wider picture. She'd do good to rent The Patriot.

You know, both sides of the "discussion" can use the flag. Afterall the Flag represents Freedom, Democracy and a host of other postive attributes.
Does the flag represent jingoism? It can. Does the flag represent patriotism? It can.
The Flag also represents peace, goodwill, a sense of fairness and fairplay.
The Flag can be used by the majority and the minority.
I am baffled by the anti-Flag movement.
As a vet I am for peace because war can really screw up my day, so the "left" has no cornerstone in that department. I think most vets would agree.
I also believe that flag burning, while despicable is very protected under the First Amendment. It means a gross protest and displeasure with the government...
I guess I have to conclude that the anti-Flag folks are in reality Hate America Fifth Columnists...
Some of you may know that I sell at county fairs. Last Monday we went and set up and returned home for az few days. I had three flags flying, two "dont tread on me" and a peace flag. After Tuesday I took down the peace flag and replaced it with the Stars and stripes. My "Peace" incense is being re-labeled as "Victory"
I just can't fathom the idiocy of these people. What azre they so afraid of? Afraid of being an American? Ashamed because our country practiced slavery 140 years ago? Because we invented baseball?Cherry-dip cones?
Please someone tell me why they are ashamed to ive in this country and why don't they just go...

Besides, the county I live in is so conservative, I'd have to drive about 40 miles to get one.
Where do you live, and is there a paintball field nearby?

Isn't that Marty Peretzs' ragazine? You know, Algore's best buddy Peretz? It's either the nation or new republic. I always get them mixed up. Not that I read either one.

I'm not sure. It's so thin on content, my birds won't even target it.

I live in Miami County (east-central) Kansas. And yes, there actually is a park where they do the paintball thing about five miles from my house.

Is there anything more pathetic than these old, worn out, hippies? This kind of anti-Americanism was "in" about 40 years ago.

Put Out No Flags this sorry wretch is only a couple blocks from WTC?
today, i went to my daughters elementary school, over 2,000 miles from the WTC,
and the district had placed an American flag every
ten feet, lining both sides of the street around two sides of the school.
these flags were on 8 foot poles stuck into the lawn.
there were 200 American flags lined up down both sides of the street. it was AWESOME.

Big suprise, the Nation is still a magazine of America-hating traitors.

jingoism...the current leftist buzz-word. Watch how it is repeated on the talking heads shows this weekend. What was it two to three weeks ago, "imperialism".
