This is part of why we have seen no new inventions come from the Middle-East since Arabic numerals (i.e., pre-Islamic fundamentalist).
Islam, as a fundamentalist religion, is incompatible with the modern world. They can't have manufacturing plants when their religion forbids them from staffing said plants. They certainly can't handle the modern role of women in information-based or industrial-based societies.
Frustrated by the advance of the modern world, they are lashing out with violence. All of societies' ills such as prostitution, graphic magazines, drunkeness, et al are blamed on our modern cultures, as if those age-old problems hadn't been around in earlier civilizations.
Fundamentalist Islam is engaged in a life and death struggle with the modern world. Women who can become educated, show their faces in public, and hold jobs threaten the very core of Muslim beliefs. Either they shut down or change modern society, or else their religion is doomed to becoming non-fundamentalist.
So are radicals associated with Islam going to resort to more violence in the future? I can't see that they think that they have any other option...
Also do not discount the negative effects of institutional polygamy, which permits the rich and powerful to take many wives, leaving the poor and less powerful with no women to marry.
This system can only be enforced in the long term in a tyranny, and by giving the frustrated womenless young men a target to channel their frustration and anger against.
Doctors, lawyers, and CEO's giving money to terrorist organizations? The ban on assassinations cannot be lifted soon enough for my taste.
We need the power to freeze the assets of people who are giving money to terrorists. We need public campaigns to inform their shareholders, patients, and clients of where their money is going. We need to publicly associate groups like CAIR with the murderers and jihadists they support.
Can you name any clerics of national stature outside of the USA who have done so, and exactly how they have condemned Osama and his false Fatwa?
To blaspheme the name of Allah by issuing a false Fatwa calling on all Moslems to commit sin in the name of Allah must surely be worthy of a Fatwa against Osama the Blasphemer, should it not?
Where is the Fatwa against Osama? Who has issued it?
If there is no Fatwa against Osama the Blasphemer, then the silence of the national mullahs must be seen as quiet acceptance of Osama's Fatwa.
I believe it was Sir Thomas Moore who stated silence must be taken as assent. IMHO the question, "Is Ossama the Mahdi?" is sitting in the back of many of the followers of Islam. Some already believe him to be even though he has not yet claimed it so. This whole thing has a long way to go and we certainly do not yet know who large our opposition will be.

I think that he wants to be, and all of this is part of a carefully crafted plan.
If that is the case, then he has spent years preparing his E&E routes, including numerous prepared cave-bunkers, the use of doubles and false vehicle convoys etc.
If we make it our announced aim to kill or capture Osama, and he continues to launch attacks and thumb his nose at our power, then his stature will fly through the stratosphere with radical moslems worldwide.
I very much agree and I would point out that it makes it imperative that he be pursued quietly and relentlessly. The emphasis is on the quietly.
If that is the case, then he has spent years preparing his E&E routes, including numerous prepared cave-bunkers, the use of doubles and false vehicle convoys etc.
This is the most likely eventuallity regardless but if we do not get him soon then we will face an ever increasing Islamic rising based upon his fufillment of "the prophecy."

Agreed. the question is now in their minds. He has not said he is not the Mahdi and he has struck the USA a very hard blow. If he gets away with it then the Fatwah he has issued gains legitamacy in the minds of ever more. He has not been universally denouced in the Islamic world so he has legitamacy from that.
Even wthout announcing our aim is the capture/killing of Ossama we are almost in that box of needing to or facing a much wider war. The average Muslim looks at the USA and says that if the situation were reversed then that would be one of our aims so in one sense it doesn't matter. One may be certain that this was involved in the original planning of the attack. Bin ladden may well be inaccessable to the Taliban now for all I know. He and they would score propaganda points from his disappearing from Afganistan and his network surviving and striking again with him giving an interview to some reporter. Said interview would air on some American station and his legend would be magnified throughout Islam.
We are in for a hell of a ride IMHO.

Thanks for the ping
Amazingly enough, yes. At least historically.
I believe it was the final attempt at the assault on Vienna that the Caliph and several hundred thousand troops actually camped out for months assuming that numbers alone would intimidate the infidels and force a surrender.
The entire harem was there, of course as well as mind boggling luxuries.
When the Christian fighters finally arrived and charged out to face an army several times its size, the Macho Muslims couldn't ride away fast enough, and left a huge amount of supplies and weapons behind (plus the beheaded favorite concubine, who decided she didn't want to go back)
So, yeah. Posturing and bluster have always been tools of the Macho Muslim Mass Murderers.
The Arabs will what?
The Arabs will nothing. The only thing the Arabs can ever do is blind-side innocents with murderous surprise. They can't actually fight a war. They can't actually win a confrontation.
They can hit and run. Or hit and die. But they are not at all a power in the traditional sense.
It doesn't mean we should be complacent... because these thugs want WMDs and will probably get them. It does mean that we should show no fear, and that we should go out and proactively kill terrorists and their supporters deftly, efficiently and often.
American laws make this country the freest in the world -- which is precisely what attracts foreign militants to come here. The FBI labors under serious restrictions that prevents it -- unless there is evidence of specific criminality -- from monitoring groups who advocate violence or other extremist policies. These groups know about the FBI's limitations and take advantage of them. They also take advantage of the fact that they are nearly impervious to infiltration by the authorities, speaking foreign languages and living in a different cultural universe. Living here benefits them in other ways too: modern technology makes it possible for them to spread ideas via faxes and the Internet all over the world, and instantly to transfer monies and give instructions.
