Craig enlisted in the Army and was proud to serve his county. He was a patriotic American and a citizen of the world. Craig believed that by working from within the military system he could help to maintain the military focus on peacekeeping and strategic planning--to prevent violence and war. For the last two years Craig drove to his job at the Pentagon with a "visualize world peace" bumper sticker on his car. This was not empty rhetoric or contradictory to him, but part of his dream. He believed his role in the Army could further the cause of peace throughout the world.

With all due respect and condolences to this poor widow, I have a couple of things to say:

1. We are citizens of the United States of America before we are citizens of the world.

2. IMO, it isn't very realistic for an enlisted man to think that he is high enough to effect real change in the military. Armies are meant to fight, not wage peace. Not many would look at his uniform and assume he's bringing a bouquet of flowers

3. Osama ain't visualizin' world peace- if he were, her husband would likely still be alive.

Just for the sake of argument what would the Catholic Church think if troops from Saudi Arabia were stationed in the Vatican?

1) The Vatican is truly tiny.

2) Are you intending to imply that we INVADED Saudi Arabia?

3) If the Vatican called in the Saudis to ask for protection, I would not be offended. I might question their judgement, but I would not be offended at the Saudis for showing up.

It's not about revenge it's about justice. If we act vengefully without much forethought we are savages. If we just throw bombs around indiscriminately how does that change anything?

This is exactly why Bush is acting with forethought and great and fully evident discrimination. So what's the problem? Have you not been paying attention?

Gandhi also made a rather remarkable radio broadcast during the middle of WWII calling on the US and the UK to unilaterally lay down their arms and surrender to Hitler to bring about world peace.

Since when was this country's hope pinned on stifling dissent? There is nothing patriotic about waging war, without a formal declaration, on one of the poorest countries on earth in the vain hope that one will root out terrorism. The only thing rooted out will be the lives of thousands of innocent suffering people who will be suffering more or will be dead. These innocents have never heard of Bin Laden, or Bush, or WTC. They will be boys, and girls, and grandmothers, and grandfathers. And they will provide the fuel for more terrorist attacks. This war which is being planned is trap being sprung by those who wish a holy war on the U.S. And most Americans are too blind to see it.

Those who opposed U.S. military action in the past questioned the right of America to protect its interests in other countries.

Right off the bat, our only legitimate interest in other countries should be to set up democratic republics like our own, which can grow on their own, so that all the world's refugees don't want to come here! We are among the few countries that have individual liberties.

Why haven't we been exporting THAT? Until we do that, there will be no peace. ( And even after that, because some people are so fanatical that they will hate us no matter what we do.)

No.2. let them look into the eyes of the Firemen and Policemen who have lost in some cases as much as an entire station or division and then tell them their loved ones dying are not worth fighting for. Armies are meant to fight, not wage peace.

What is it that Rush likes to say? - "Armies are for killing people and breaking things."

Crude, but essentially true. When a small army that fully realizes that this is its purpose, meets a much larger army that is confused about its purpose, watch out, big army!

This woman actually believes that world peace--global peace, with everyone getting along and no wars, no dictatorships,and no evil is a possibility if we'll just all work for it. She is brainwashed and deluded

There will always be evil. God knows us, that is why he instituted civil government to punish lawbreakers to protect those who keep the law.

There will be those who rationally question both the means and the goals of the coming war, a war which will be waged inside the US as well as out. Their rights must certainly be protected.

But, as there were in 1969, there are already those who are "anti-war" because they are anti-US, who work not for 'peace' but for the defeat and humiliation of the US. They are as much the enemy as the terrorists, whether Militant Mohamedans, Columbian Drug Lords, or home-grown racists.

The war has started. It is time to choose sides. If they choose to side with those who try to kill us, they are the enemy. We do not have the luxury to permit the nourishing of a viper in our bosom. Let us treat them as the traitors they are.

NOTHING! Anyone who could think differently has no concept of decency or honor, or the value of human life. They are just as uncivilized as the terrorists themselves.

No matter what kinds of policies our nation has engaged in, no matter what anyone in this country, or anywhere in the world thinks about us, there is absolutely nothing this nation could ever have done that would justify the brutal murder of over six thousand innocent civilians. BTW: I would add that after EVERYTHING our nation has done FOR others - more charity and humanitarian acts than any nation in human history - no argument can ever be made that could justify such a horrible atrocious act of terrorism committed against innocent Americans.

I'm not aware of any American throwing bombs around indiscriminantly. Clintoon was a pro at that, but he's no longer in power.
