On Friday, September 28, nationally syndicated conservative talk host Hugh Hewitt described this photo on his radio show, citing FreeRepublic as his source, and giving credit to the post by ASA Vet in particular.
Since then, Hugh's webmistress, Lynne (the WebXena) has reported HUNDREDS of requests for a link to this photo, and has posted a link to a DIFFERENT FR THREAD, with an image posted by FReeper archy, on www.HughHewitt.com.
An earlier thread with this image was started by RaceBannon on 9/27/2001 at 12:30:59 PDT.
1 - Is there an EARLIER post of this image anywhere on Free Republic?
2 - Does anyone know who "Bob McCown" is?
(MOST images posted seem to have the name "Bob McCown" printed in the lower right-hand corner.)
3 - Who is the REAL creator of this masterpiece? (And, can you PROVE it?)
Thank you.
Hey...I got that same email.
Good stuff, Randy!
It says "Barksdale" behind the tail right? Who says we're "beat-up"? The military has been using WWII buildings since, well, WWII.
Can you help here?
She got the stuff ALL OVER her computer's screen.
JUST KIDDING, ladies!
LetsRoll!!!
Here is the one that showed up on RaceBannon's thread on 9/27 (also shown at the top of this thread):

Here is the one that was created on 9/25 and posted:
Here is my correction of that 9/25 pic. I only corrected it because I didn't want my son to "i" comes before "e" EVEN after "c." ;-)
Notice on the 9/25 pic the sig in the lower right corner is blurry, but apparently says "Bob." In the one you posted, it looks to me like the sig was corrected because the background is different, but it probably is the same "Bob."
I could tell that the one you posted was not the one I corrected and posted to RaceBannon's thread when his didn't show up because the "e" is in front of the tail on mine and the "d" is in front of the tail on the one you posted here.
I first saw the original pic without the text on Yahoo Photos the day before it was posted here. It was a file photo, one of many of our war planes and ships which I looked through when trying to find a pic for the "Warm and Fuzzy" thread. Obviously, someone else saw those pics on Yahoo and was super creative.
Your NEXT mission, should you choose to accept it, is to:
1 - Fix the OTHER great image that is circulating via the Internet, "If you can read this..."
We need someone to "WhiteOut" part of the F-word, so that is suitable for posting on this FAMILY forum.
(There is a link to it at post 30 of this thread, but it is difficult for me to post HTML from this old machine. You can click on To 30 that THIS REPLY has immediately following it, then click on the "OSAMA" link that you find there to go directly to the offending version of that image.)
What (cheap and easy) software do you recommend for beginners?
(ANYONE can chime in here with their advice. Thank you!)
There is only one way for the newbie to learn: Just get the proper software for it and experiment. push buttons, find out what they do. That's how I started. And I learned as I went along.
What (cheap and easy) software do you recommend for beginners?
I have Photoshop 5.0 and Paint Shop Pro 6.0 They are not cheap but they ARE easy. Photoshop costs somewhere in the neighborhood of 600 bucks. I bought my photoshop and paintshop off of a Yahoo auction for 30 bucks. (Backup copies) Plus, because they were back up copies, they didn't come with the instructions (You can buy books on the how to's of photoshop and paint shop pro).
The photoshop software came with only four lessons in PDF format on what one can do with the software, so using those few lessons, I taught myself how to use the photoshop. And what the lessons didn't tell me (which was alot), I had to discover on my own. I just didn't want to go through the added expense of books on photoshop or paintshop pro (there are many).
I myself prefer photoshop over paint shop pro. The photoshop can do much more than paintshop. Photoshop has many more tools and is quite easier to work with than paint shop.
However, the reason why I bought paintshop was for the animation software that came with it so that I can add animation to my images.
Here it is.
I use Photoshop like Lowbridge, and love it. I've been using it for 12-13 years, but a newbie can do a lot without knowing about all the functions.

ANOTHER guy who likes PhotoPoint is the REAL Bob McCown, creator of this masterpiece.

Re: How would you like your "photo credit"?
Yea, use the rmccown.org/bob link. Ive gotten so much feedback on the image, its amazing (Besides all the people that told me I spelled received wrong... oh well. I originally did the image on the 21st, and mailed it out to a bunch of my friends...
Thanks

See www.rmccown.org/bob/index.shtml for more about the creator of this Internet legend:

(Perhaps we can get him to post a link to THIS THREAD. hint, hint)

Not yet, but we are working on it.
He HAS posted a link to THIS thread on his website, www.rmccown.org/bob/terrorists.html:

On the 21st of this month, I ran across a message somewhere on usenet that said something along the lines of "Well, looks like the terrorists lost the toss". This sat in my head for a bit, and I morphed it into the "The terrorists have won the toss, and have elected to receive". Now all I needed was a good photo of a 52 or something. Originally, I had intended to find an image I had seen before of a 52 doing a carpet bombing mission from about 300 feet. I couldnt find that one, but found the one below. A bit of cut/paste/etc in photoshop, and I had the image.
I mailed it out to a dozen or so of my friends, and posted it on one website, the Dead Goat Saloon. How it spread from there is anybody's guess. Ive recieved dozens of emails about it.
Free Republic has a long thread about searching for me. :)
Sounds like time to start a NEW thread, announcing the results of our search!
Tell Bob to get over here, his talents are in demand.
Hi all. I recieved the pics from Hubby, who got it from a general friend of his. I don't know who made it. It was making the military email rounds is all I know. I posted it on FR that day.
Must be nice hobnobbing with the BIG BRASS!

Great minds think alike!
From post 31 on the NEW B-52 thread:
Congratulations, Bob McCown, for registering as a brand new FReeper!

This is getting to be a habit!
(Nationally syndicated talk host Hugh Hewitt's producer (generalissimoduane) just joined FR a few days ago.)
The warning that comes up is "Your right mouse button has been disabled." It ought to come up "copying prohibited" if they really have a copyright issue about the image. It's certainly possible to bring the image up by direct path, then download it.
"Pro-Terrorist ersatz Pacifist Krypto-Nazi Camel Butt Traitors Demand America Surrender to Terrorists."
I just posted that "all your base" thing because I think it is funny. Wish I could see your graphic.
Way too funny!
A keeper. Thanks.
