MANCHESTER, Tenn. – Six people were killed and dozens of others injured after a passenger on a Greyhound bus stabbed the bus driver, causing the bus to wreck and flip on Interstate 24.
Though Greyhound suspended its bus service nationwide, a U.S. Justice Department spokesman in Washington told The Tennessean that authorities do not yet believe the incident is related to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Still seems odd how slow the news about the attacker's ethnicity has trickled out.

''We're in the early stages of the invest but we do not believe at this time that is related to terrorism,'' said Susan Dryden, spokeswoman for the U.S. Department of Justice. Can anyone here give me a credible reason to believe that our government is not simply and totally incompetent? Good grief, it doesn't matter if he's in osama's "official" gang or not; a guy with a Middle Eastern accent stabs a Greyhound bus driver and yanks the steering wheel to crash the bus, kills ten more Americans in the process, and our government doesn't think it's related to terrorism? I long ago lost faith in the political establishment, but until recently I did have more confidence in the law enforcement mechanism. It's quickly deteriorating.

Here we go again. The perps are identifiable before the acts occur. When are the authorities going to act?

Once again we have proof about what happens when something is declared a victim disarmament zone. This insanity has to stop now! One armed American could have help stop this. When is corporate America going to get a spine and stand up to the liberals that would sooner soil themselves than have armed Americans in the seat next to them? Our local bus service also prohibits firearms, even with a CCW. It just doesn't make any sense. But then again, liberals never do make any sense.

Agreed, enforcement is starting to become more and more PC .
Stupid liberals and the fact there's now a police union has something to do with this I suspect .

''We're in the early stages of the invest but we do not believe at this time that is related to terrorism,'' said Susan Dryden, spokeswoman for the U.S. Department of Justice. Uh, Susan, you mean you just leapfrogged right over suspicion into "not believing"?
To: AmericanCheeseFood
I think this could be a real way to get around any FBI profiling or to avoid the suspicion of average Americans. A blue-eyed fair skinned Muslim terrorist from Croatia or Bosnia would be the ticket.

I am shocked, and praying for all the victims of this horrible attack! I do desperately hope that a faction of Bin Laden's clan is not involved in this; it's way too close to home for comfort. The conflicting reports are also unsettling. WSMV-TV, here in Nashville, just aired a live press conference with Governor Sundquist and the director of TBI, etc. The national reports and the local reports are definitely at odds with each other. That doesn't do much for my peace of mind, for Nashville or for the safety of Grayhound passengers everywhere. There is no law, state or federal, that requires a manifest of bus passengers, and that is just an ignorant oversight -- especally now -- IMHO.
Oh crap -- our local emergency alert is going off again right now! Will report if it is anything pertaining to Grayhound or terrorist activity. Please pray for the victims in Manchester, all Grayhound passengers, and this country?!
Thank you!
God bless,

The doctor quotes the bus driver and the major news outlets will not report that the perpetrator had a Middle Eastern accent. What is going on?

"Oh and he's dead ." or is he alive?

This would be a ~huge~ news story on ~any~ day, terrorism angle completely aside. But it has practically disappeared from the media.Am in total agreement here....

Incompetence would imply that they haven't the ability to determine the truth.
I would humbly suggest that you are being deliberately lied to about this and about what we are going to do in response to the 911 outrage.

The national reports and the local reports are definitely at odds with each other.
Can you summarize the differences?
To: Dirk McQuickly
Militants seeking independence for Croatia have struck inside the U.S. in the past. In December 1975 Croatian nationalists were suspected of planting a bomb in a luggage locker at La Guardia Airport, killing 11 people and injuring 75. Less than a year later, Croats hijacked a TWA jet traveling from New York City to Chicago and eventually diverted it to Paris. As part of that operation, the group also planted a bomb at Grand Central Terminal, which killed a police officer who tried to defuse it. In June 1980 Croatian "freedom fighters" detonated a bomb inside the museum at the Statue of Liberty, but no one was injured. All told, Croats committed more than 20 acts of terror in the U.S. from 1976 through 1980.

The doctor quotes the bus driver and the major news outlets will not report that the perpetrator had a Middle Eastern accent. What is going on? They want to suppress any racial attacks and any random hate crimes that could be unleased due to this incident. Run along now, nothing to see.....
To: all
Somebody was on the scene very quickly to hush the initial reports of the Middleastern accent.
American, wake up, this is your life now...we are indeed at war. Bush needs to make one last shot a getting the moderate Arab countries and then,,,,,move on and crush the terror camps and Taleban. The longer we wait - the weaker we look. And this ridiculous decision to come out with a "we support a Palestinian state" was the most absured policy announcement ive seen since we tied our hands in Vietnam.
To: AlaskaErik
You are dreaming. This guy made no overtly threatening move until he cut the driver so who would have been ready or able to shoot him.
It does not help the pro 2d position to try and force everything into an ideological box particularly when it doesn't fit at all. This merely makes pro 2d people look like nutcases.
Besides how much easier would it have been for the guy just to shoot the driver?

Hey! That is extremely incalled for. If you have ever been to Nashville, you would know we "is not all walkin' barefoot and munchin' on chitlins." Where in the world is your sense of respect for the victims of this tragedy? If your only response to this is to make regional misconception jokes, perhaps you should take thyself to Oz and ask the Wizard for a heart! Sheesh! (FWIW -- I'm originally from Illinois, and many Nashvillians are "transplants," so you are entirely off-base, and your comments were completely tasteless.") An apology would be appreciated. Thank you.

This has been my worry as well.

temporarily suspended all its bus passenger service nationwide in the wake of the wreck, the AP said, but buses that were on the road were allowed to travel on to their destinations before stopping. Why do one without the other? If the perp was asking for the time to coordinate this with other attacks (speculation), would not the most prudent thing to do be stop the busses on the road?
To: Dirk McQuickly,zorobabel,patent,harpseal
I live in Nashville. I have been watching LIVE coverage of the incident. The driver of the bus told the doctor who was preparing him for surgery that the man who cut his throat was of "middle eastern origin."
I heard the doctor say this with my own ears during a LIVE telephone interview with newschannel 4 anchor babe. The man, according to witnesses kept looking at his watch and coming forward frequently to ask the driver various questions about destinations and reststops etc. He was descibed as "normal" and friendly, right up until he cut the driver's throat and grabbed the wheel and steered the bus across the median. 67 Posted on 10/03/2001 09:39:07 PDT by Zorobabel

The only problem with your continued bleating of this bit of trivia is that the 1975 attack was carried out by Croatian separatists. Croatia is now an Independent country. The USA has no Troops in Croatia. The USA allowed the Croatians to ethnically cleanse Serbs and Muslims. They don't have a particularly big gripe with us. On the other hand the Muslim fanatics in the Balkans (including Bin Laden associates) do have a beef with us and would have little problem getting Croatian documents. Or did you miss the previous threads on this very issue this morning?

Tera-dittos on this sentiment.
In addition to sealing the borders, the 7+ million "honest" ARAB-Americans in this country need to dig into their families, friends, etc. and ferret out the bad guys who are still in our country. Hand them over and PROVE you love this country and truly want to be considered AMERICAN-arabs.
If you are not willing to do this, get the H*&L out!

My guess is that a lot of terrorism in this country in the future will look like this. These people have been trained and work in cells, maybe in the future alone, to avoid detection of a master plot. When it begins happening anywhere at anytime, the entire country will be on edge and never feel safe. That is probably the plan. If we are successful in preventing the "large" events like what happened Sept. 11, I think we can expect to see these "smaller" undetectable incidents increasing.

Probably a Bosnian Muslim jihadist with fake papers. Cut him up with boxcutters until he squeals out all he knows.

Our local bus service also prohibits firearms, even with a CCW. Well then as more incidents like these happen, and in greater frequency, free-thinking Americans will start packing concealed heat wherever they go. The "law" is getting us killed. The law is the soft underbelly which allows terrorists and other criminals to kill, and they know it! Which is better, jail for carrying without a license, or being murdered?
