FOX SELLS OUT: Israel ok's targeting "suspected militants" (MILITANTS?)
FoxNews crawl on Cable | 10/04/01 | Yehuda

Posted on 10/04/2001 6:51:54 PM PDT by Yehuda

"Israel's security cabinet gives army ok to resume controversial practice of searching out and killing suspected palestinian militants [my emphasis].

TOPICS: Miscellaneous; Your Opinion/Questions
KEYWORDS:
Like many 7x24 news channels, Fox News on cable has been running a crawl at the bottom of the screen (G-d help us if this is what runs on their street display), and one of the repeated "news" items since this morning contains the following text:

"Israel's security cabinet gives army ok to resume controversial practice of searching out and killing suspected palestinian militants [my emphasis].

a/ if it's so controversial, then why does most of America wish the US had this policy in place before 9/11/01? Are there ANY family of those killed in the WTC, Pentagon or in Penn who don't wish the US had been doing this?

b/ Suspected....Can FoxNews, (in conjunction with Arafat's public relations staff) name one terrorist targeted by this policy who was NOT a murderer and a terrorist?

c/ I guess FoxNews agrees with the State Department’s remarks that Israel should do nothing when Arafat refuses to turn over these men (whose extradition Israel has constantly requested from PaleSTAN, AS PER THE OSLO agreement).

d/ "... suspected palestinian militants." MILITANTS? Is FoxNews now joining CNN and Reuters in caving to the PC crowd, or are they bought and paid for by Secty. Powell in his bid to soften up Israel for our new "allies," Iran and Syria?

Lest you think this is a minority opinion, as FoxNews lives and dies on demographics, please note in a poll this week that 92% of Americans believe the US and Israel should be coordinating on the war against terror.

I prefer FoxNews over the "other brand," but this editorial blooper doesn't work when most of their commentators are ragging the big three over flag pins. YMMV. - Yehuda

Is it possible that "militants" was the word used by Israeli officials?

You're not hallucinating, fellow Infidels. The attack on the Trade Center was a blazing billboard that they mean to convert or kill us all.

From Merriam-Webster dictionary:

Main Entry: mil·i·tant
Function: adjective
Date: 15th century
1 : engaged in warfare or combat : FIGHTING
2 : aggressively active (as in a cause) : COMBATIVE
synonym see AGGRESSIVE

How does this fail to describe the people they are going after?

These terrorists have entered the battlefield under the philosophy of total, unconventional warfare. Hence they have given up the protections of the civil, criminal legal system. The terrorists are subject to being killed summarily.

Is it possible that "militants" was the word used by Israeli officials?

not likely - "militant" is newspeak for "freedom fighter,” as in one mans's etc... The only israeli offal (sic) who would use such a word would be working for the socialist/surrenderist Peres, and they wouldn't be announcing the policy; too busy on their knees with Arafat.

you want to defend the dumbing down of the terminology? (a) you quoted the adjective, not the noun - A fighting, warring, or aggressive person or party. [Middle English, from Old French, from Latin mlitns, mlitant- present participle of mlitre, to serve as a soldier. See militate.](b) you want war from Israel - please, have arafat say it is so, so we can get this crap out of the way, and not have to deal with panty-waist semioticians who use LANGUAGE as terrorism -

the trans arabs in question were offered deal after deal, they SIGNED deal after deal, and they have reneged on their agreements - it is only through the folly of commie fools in Israel and clinton lovers here (including many deluded jews, I am ashamed to say) that they resurrected arafat, after he was expelled to Tunis after he caused the deaths of 10' of thousands in Lebanon's civil war, they brought him back to Israel, gave him FREQUENT FLIER millage to the WH, AND ARMED HIM so that he could kill, since the signing of the Oslo suicide pact, the same percentage of Jews in Israel as we just lost Americans in the WTC! And it was all done with words! Militant is less milder and implies less condemnation than terrorist - the word that should be used is butcher/madman/destroyer of his own people as well as Jews; more melodious might be syphillitic-mother-teacher-of-bin-laden. But we'll settle for terrorist, at least until we can just call him DEAD.

I think you are reading WAY too much into this.

your opinion is noted.

Leave FOX alone - it is not perfect but it is the best we got.

And if they aren't aware they have a fox in the hen house?

I know Bret Hume and Neil Cavuto came down again on Cnn and Reuters yesterday for not using the "t" word. I think we should give them give them the benefit of the doubt and see what happens.

I heard that too, I think - I am usually big on BOTD - it's practically a mitzvah - I emailed them this morning when I saw it, called in the afternoon, and then I saw the crawl still going on this evening - just emailed the whole station as I posted this thread.

I think you are reading too much into this.

A Pali that limits his protests to throwing rocks at Israeli soldiers would be a "militant." A Pali that straps a bomb to his chest and goes into a pizza parlor is a "terrorist." Both types exist there.

I don't condone either type of action, of course.

And maybe the Fox scroll writer just wanted to use a different word for a change. This isn't a court of law where we need to be exactly 100% precise 100% of the time.

And these scrolling news posts are so short they can only give the basics of any story.

I don't think you'll see Fox stop using the word "terrorist."
