Sounds to me like Mr. Luthor was one of them CINOs - Christians In Name Only.

The difference between Mr. Luthor and Mr. bin Laden is that Mr. Luthor was defying the teachings of Jesus, where as Mr. bin Laden is obeying the teachings of Mohammed.
