Photographs of Osama Bin Laden on a visit to Oxford in 1971 have come to light after their owner recognised him in widely-publicised pictures from the same year.

The pictures are owned by a Spanish woman and one has been published in a Spanish newspaper showing 14-year-old Bin Laden with two of his brothers and two glamorous Spanish girls as they attended a language course.

Their owner said she had made scribbled diary notes by the photos, and remembered Bin Laden sounding educated, and seeming "deep" for his age.

But she said she did not recall him being interested in politics, or particularly concerned with religious duties.

Saudi-born Bin Laden did not appear to be into rock music or fashion, and did not like the 1970s London scene, the El Correo newspaper reported.

He used to tell the Spanish girls that the foreigners who walked around London were a bit crazy.

The photograph (above) was taken in an Oxford park, where the woman recalled going for a walk one evening after taking tea.

Bin Laden (far right) appears with his older brothers and seems a gangly teenager, with a slightly awkward smile.

The other, as yet unpublished, pictures are reported to show the group having a picnic, and Bin Laden punting a boat.

Their owner recalled Bin Laden's sadness when he told how the three brothers had different mothers and that his mother was a concubine.

He keeps in touch with her? Where did that come from? The woman he considers his mother is one of the wives of his father (the last one) who adopted him. I hadn't heard that he actually kept in touch with his birthmother. Are you sure about that?

It is my understanding he has ten kids. The boy married the daughter of Mullah Omar I believe. One of the girls is married to the son of another one of his ilk...keeping it all in the family. Yes, he keeps in touch with her. One of his cell phone calls was made to his mother on September 9, telling her to go into hiding that a big surprise was coming. That phone call has been made public, but I forget which news outlet carried it. I know it was posted here. The phone call is part of the evidence linking Osama to 9/11.

You are right, the news reported that contact, but it was with his step-mother who raised him, not his birth mother. I realize that several news sources referred to the woman he contacted as "his mother"....but the woman is in fact the last wife of his father.

Tony Blair graduated Oxford in 1972, so Blair and the evil one attended Oxford together. Clinton was at Oxford in 1968 and remained until sometime in 1970, where he left to go to Yale Law. No sure if the evil one was there at the same time.

Scratch that entirely. I reread the article and it said the evil one visited Oxford in 1971... not that he attended Oxford. Maybe he visited for his induction into skull and bones, but if not it appears that the evil one was not a student there at all, making the connection to Blair or Clinton appear simply coincidental.

I think old, or should I say here young, bin Laden looks like all he could do in really hot London of 1971 was to go home and he and his Mum played wanker in the pocket pool-room. The boy could stand next to a pretty young thing, but just couldn't rise to the occassion.

The story says bin Laden was in Oxford in the summer of 1971 for some summer language program. Most of the university students are gone from Oxford during the summer, so I don't think there's much chance Blair ever ran into bin Laden.

Clinton's bio may say he was at Oxford from 1968 to 1970, but in fact he was only there until 1969. After that school year, he was asked not to come back for the second year of his Rhodes Scholarship, because of the scandal of his raping Eileen Wellstone. He spent the year traveling. Significantly, he ended up not getting the degree he should have gotten in 1970.
