Sarah Brady: Tighter Gun Laws Needed to Prevent Terrorism and
Strengthen National Security
To: National Desk
Contact: Brendan Daly of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun
Violence, 202-898-0792

WASHINGTON, Oct. 12 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Sarah Brady, chair of the
Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, today issued the following
statement regarding the U.S. Senate's passage last night of
anti-terrorism legislation.

"With passage of this legislation, the Senate has taken a
significant step toward ensuring that law enforcement has the tools
needed to investigate and deter terrorist attacks. But there is
one glaring omission - nothing in this bill will close the gaps in
our federal firearm laws that allow terrorists to amass their
deadly arsenals. The House should address this failure when it
takes up the legislation today.

"We know from recent terrorism investigations that these
dangerous criminals will exploit any opening in our laws to buy
weapons, including firearms. In some cases, they have gone to gun
shows and bought firearms and ammunition from unlicensed sellers
who were not required to conduct criminal background checks.

"Incredibly, our soldiers could be gunned down by foreign
terrorists armed with firearms purchased at American gun shows. We
can, and must, close loopholes in our firearm laws by requiring a
background check every time a firearm is sold. A criminal
background check is a minor inconvenience for gun buyers -- most
are completed within minutes -- but is a key tool for protecting
public safety. We must also ensure that there are records of all
firearm sales so that law enforcement officials can track
terrorists, trace their weapons, and know what threats they are
facing when they attempt to apprehend these criminals.

"Any anti-terrorism proposal that fails to address easy access
to firearms and retention of records is clearly inadequate. If we
need more careful screening of people entering our country, surely
we need to check the background of people buying guns once they are
here. And it makes no sense to crack down on terrorists laundering
money, if we allow them to use their cash to buy weapons with
impunity. The Congress and the Administration should work together
to make this counter-terrorism package more comprehensive."

Whatr "deadly arsenals" is she talking about? Not ONE of these terrorists had a single firearm in his possession. And if OUR people had not been DISARMED by Sarah Brady, 5000 people, 500 Moms and Dads, would STILL BE ALIVE.

She is an idiot. How dare she use a tragedy like the Sept 11th attack to push her agenda. I hate women like that. Rep. Caroline McCarthy did that to get elected and still does that. The hyjackers used box cutters not guns and maybe if we had sky marshalls or passengers with guns we could have overpowered and prevented the hyjackers from going into the cockpit.

I think that she's making an oblique reference to the VPC's snide inference that 50 caliber Barretts have found their way into Osama-chan's hands. This got confounded with their favorite bogey-man, the big, bad gun show. Look, these people are pushing an agenda that is rooted in the lust for power, and pitched with a Swiftian incrementalism. Nothing is beneath them.

On the plus side, Ms. Brady and Mr. Sugarman and the rest are exposing themselvs as the sick political operators that they are. It is important, though, to point out the lies, distortions, mistakes, and absurdities of their arguments, particularly to your neighbors, friends, and co-workers who may not have an immediate grasp of the actual facts.

It's time to push back at the domestic foe as well.

I wonder how many of her own membership have armed-up and quit her silly group since Sept. 11th? Now that would be an interesting newspaper article to read.

If she wishes to relate the events of Sept 11 to gun control, than I choose to lay 5000 deaths of innocent UNARMED Americans at her feet...

Dear Sarah, You incredibly self absorbed, the world does not revolve around your personal hardships. Your obsession with gun control is unhealthy and unproductive. Move on, get a life.

How many Americans have been killed by terrorists wielding guns in the United States from 9/11 on?

Boxcutters, yes.

Anthrax, one deadly case.

Airliners, yes.

This woman is a caricature of herself.

Old saying--When all you own is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

There is only one cure for her--a gang surrounding her wielding knives.

Shout it from the rooftops Sarah baby.

Every press release you put out like this one really hammers home the idiocy of your arguments and destroys what little credibility you have.

They just eliminated the Fourth Amendment protections just the other day, why should the Second Amendment be sacred?

The Gun Lobby was silent on the Fourth Amendment loss.

It's amazing to think of the sense of self-importance a person gets from pushing another person around in a wheelchair. It reminds me of some bank tellers who cop a snotty attitude because they get to handle other people's money all day.

Sarah Brady would do well to look at who's purchasing guns in the latest buying spree--middle to upper-middle class people, i.e. her trusted soccer moms. I guess the 'I Want To Kill All Americans' crowd is a bigger threat to the Perpetually Anxious than the NRA is. Go figure.

So long, Sarah--your faulty fear tactics have been replaced by reality. Sux2B you.

What American firearms they have were furnished by us back in the 80s. Dittos with British arms. They have lots of captured Soviet equipment. They also have Chinese hardware given them by China. I'll bet there is not a more eclectically armed group of madmen anywhere else in the world.

Sarah Brady continues to make herself appear foolish in the eyes of her countrymen and thus diminishes the support she gets from every day citizens. And that is fine with me.
