Oh, horse puckey. Halloween is an excuse to have a party or for little kids to dress up and get candy. It's not a deep, dark eeeeviiiillll celebration, but making too much of it could certainly make it so.

Right. When I was a kid in the ‘40s and ‘50s, we occasionally went to see spooky movies. We also went to see cowboy movies, Tarzan movies, etc., etc. By the time I came along, the Halloween costume ‘n’ candy holiday was already with us. It had absolutely no “evil” symbolism in those days. It was a costume and candy day for kids. We could dress up any way we wanted, and it was usually like our favorite movie characters, spooky or not.
