I'll have to take your word that in the first video there is actually a tank in the crosshairs, because I do not see anything.

Notice the change in the fuselage of the airplane in the lower right.

Clearly. They blew away the boys and girls gyms. What else could those arched structures have been? :)

Why don't they hit that airplane (to the right and below hangers)? Looks like a pretty obvious target to me.

Also note that both the before and the after picture show cluster bomb damage in the lower left hand corner, encompassing a part of the runway as well as what looks like an anti-aircraft artillery battery.

This reminds me of what is aggravating about the press and their total lack of knowledge of military matters. Obviously, the first order of business is take out the direct threat to attacking aircraft, then take out the means to wage war, and finally, if at all possible, retain as much as you can of the enemy's position for your own use later. Such a methodical gameplan TAKES TIME. Based on these two photographs, I would give our guys an A+. The runway is usable with only a minimum of rework, and the enemy has been denied all use of irreplaceable aircraft.

All those thousands of mothballed planes in the California desert,

can't we just load them up---helicopters too...fill em up and crash land them "over there"!

Do some fly byes(draw fire) too!

Do a kamikaze-cyber dot-com!

OK, smarty pants, then where is the hospital?

I was going to ask about the aspirin factory, but I remember the previous administration already took it out.

Yeah, it probably wouldn't be real economical to waste a bomb on a half an airplane.

If you look closely at the plane in the 'after' photo, it is clearly missing the tail section.

It look to me like the tail is missing in the after photo, and the nose wheel if off the concrete.

I think they doubled as hospitals and retirement homes or were those in the Red Cross buildings destroyed?

Probably don't want to ruin it, since it's going to be our airfield in a few days...

Judging by the round globular shape of the destroyed buildings, it looks like we just took out another baby milk factory.

Looking at that tail-section from the second angle would produce the effect of it appearing missing. It is not. The plane didn't move an inch, comparitively. Further, there is no commensurate hole below the tail-section or debris confirming such a blow.

I agree with your observation of the cars. Seems to me, the Talibums would be real PO'd if their cars were wrecked. I'd have done it just for GP. If they wrecked my "new" wheels I'd tell the US where SAMMY is!

Well, you know, that WAS the intended target. But we all know how inaccurate our bombs are and we missed it. These stray bombs accidentally fell on the hospital/Red Cross/orphanage/baby milk factory/residences located conveniently nearby. < /sarcasm >

At first look I thought it was an airplane too, completely untouched. On second look, I don't know what it is, but it's clearly not touched. Could it be an inflatable airplane? Ha!

Are we sure it is not another hospital. 30 million Afghans seem to have about 30 million hospitals, per the Talibans reckoning. And each hospital has a day care center/baby food factory/orphanage/UN outpost.

Can't open the vids.

Some more devestation on the airbase would have been nice.

Looks like one side of a couple of hangars got caved in. Where are the craters and broken things?

What am I supposed to gather from looking at before and after? Help.

Looks like a decoy to me that stubby wingspan with that fuselage doesn't look right, any experts at photo intel or aircraft can identify that?

While watching the videos I wondered: Do our 500 pounders make any noise as they're falling? - You know, like when you see some of those old war movies and the bombs are screaming as they're coming down...

FWIW, WWII war correspondent Ernie Pyle once got a little too close to a heavy bombardment of German positions by Allied heavy bombers, during the breakout from Normandy. (He survived. The Germans didn't.) He said the bombs made a rattling sound as they fell. He attributed this to the movement of the fins. I dunno if today's bombs have similar fins.

Not that it is relevant. Given the airplane is probably an Afghan Junk anywho.

Angle #2, given the thinness of the tail and the black paint on the rear most section, makes it appear like it is missing. Further, there is no hole in the ground, no debris and it hasn't moved an inch from angle #1
