| Northshore Company Forbids Workers To Display Flags On Hardhats |
| (11/8/01, 06:00 PM) |
| Construction workers at a barge building plant on the Northshore are accusing their employer of being un-patriotic. |
|
Since September 11th Flags have been flying everywhere, but at the Trinity Shipyard in Madisonville, workers say their employer won't let them show their patriotism on the job. The workers who talked to Eyewitness News asked us to conceal their identities. Some workers did put American flags on their hardhats, but trinity Marine ordered them to remove the flags. To me it's a slap in the face, telling us we can't do it. It makes me feel like they don't want to back the country and they're not patriotic and they don't care about us, said one of the workers. During desert storm the company passed flags out to us to put on our hardhats...why, all of a sudden, can we not have them said another worker. Trinity Marine's headquarters in Dallas said, "The policy is being enforced so that any and all random markings or stickers on hard hats will not offend any of our staff. We are deeply sorry that any of our staff might misinterpret our actions as being unpatriotic. That certainly was not our intent." People in Madisonville had some things to say about the Trinity Marine situation. Carl Bourgeois worked at the shipyard for 35 years, and he can't believe there's a flag sticker ban. "I think it's lousy. There's no reason why they shouldn't let them do that", said Bourgeois. Building supply company owner Gary Sneider says he encourages his employees to display the flag. Congressman David Vitter told Eyewitness News,"As we continue to mourn the victims of September 11th, I can't believe that a company would prohibit its workers from displaying the American flag on their hardhats. Many Trinity Marine workers agree, and hope the company will change its mind. Trinity Marine says it supports the nation's military and the president's actions to fight terrorism. |

"Dear Sirs,
We are personally offended that your company is denying American citizens the right to display THEIR flag in THEIR country!
If this offends anyone on your staff, they should be removed immediately!
And just WHY would they be offended by the display of the American flag in America during these perilous times, when America had been under attack?
As our President and his staff, has stated many times, those who are not with us are comforting and harboring the enemy.
For this great country to maintain its greatness, "political correctness" must be thrown in the trash.
Most sincerely,

Dear Sir:
I am personally offended that your company, Trinity Marine, is denying American citizens the right to display THEIR flag in THEIR country!
If the United States flag offends anyone on your staff, they should be removed immediately! You should also consider turning their names over to the FBI, as they may be in cahoots with the terrorists.
As President Bush has stated many times, those who are not with us, are providing comfort and aid the sworn enemy of These United States.
For this great country to maintain its greatness, for civilization to win over anarchy, political correctness must be thrown in the trash.
I trust that your company with reconsider its position on this matter, and stand with the rest of America against the terrorists
Sincerely,

National Symbol
by Charles Evans HughesThe flag is the symbol of our national unity, our national endeavor, our national aspiration.
The flag tells of the struggle for independence, of union preserved, of liberty and union one and inseparable, of the sacrifices of brave men and women to whom the ideals and honor of this nation have been dearer than life.
It means America first; it means an undivided allegiance.
It means America united, strong and efficient, equal to her tasks.
It means that you cannot be saved by the valor and devotion of your ancestors, that to each generation comes its patriotic duty; and that upon your willingness to sacrifice and endure as those before you have sacrificed and endured rests the national hope.
It speaks of equal rights, of the inspiration of free institutions exemplified and vindicated, of liberty under law intelligently conceived and impartially administrated. There is not a thread in it but scorns self-indulgence, weakness, and rapacity.
It is eloquent of our community interests, outweighing all divergencies of opinion, and of our common destiny.
If I wouldn't be working night shift this weekend, I'd be walking their main gate.
Can't wait 'till Monday to find out how they react. Heheheh.
Thanks again!
