A death notice appearing in Sunday's edition of Helsingin Sanomat has caused something of a stir in this country. The notice was for Mohamed El-Amir, born in Kafr El-Sheikh, Egypt, in 1968, who died in New York on September 11.
The English-language death notice had been placed by a Finnish-born 58-year-old woman who is a citizen of Australia.
El-Amir is also known by the name Mohamed Atta, and is suspected of having been one of the hijackers who crashed an American Airlines Boeing 767 airliner into the World Trade Center in New York on September 11.
The death notice has aroused a good deal of media attention in Finland.
"The notice came to us about two or three weeks ago. We did not publish it immediately, because it awoke some suspicion. We made our own inquiries, which did not reveal any terrorist connections. Therefore, we did not have any reason not to publish it", says Janne Virkkunen, Editor-in-Chief of Helsingin Sanomat.
On Sunday evening, the woman who had submitted the notice said that she had been in contact with El-Amir for about a year through an Internet chat room.
"I am a student of classical archaeology. I met him in chat, and we immediately established a very close friendship. He said that he is an Egyptian architect, which means that we had very much to talk about", the woman told Helsingin Sanomat.
The woman says that before she submitted the death notice, she had been in contact with police and legal experts, and was told that publishing the notice would not have any legal consequences for her.
According to Paavo Selin, head of the security unit of SUPO, Finland's Security Police, the notice does not give cause for any further investigation.
_________
This is most bizarre. This educated and professional lady has **** for brains.
She probably is -- for whatever reason -- lonely as all-get-out, if she was willing to statically memorialize a man partially responsible for one of the bloodiest single acts in the history of the planet.
You would be surprised how many women with seemingly plenty going for them are ready to cast it all aside for a few thrilling moments with a "soul mate." However, even this dimwit was smarter than those types -- she checked to see if she was going to catch legal troubles over the obit.
Go figure, you would think that the FBI would have gotten rid of it by now.

Hmmm...
Anyone know French? Bab Souria
I'm going to try to find out more about this when I get home.
Which brings up a point I was discussing with my husband yesterday. Everytime you see a picture of Bin Laden with his cohorts (or any group of the Taliban) there are always a couple who have their faces entirely hidden?
Who are these secretive sodiers? Why are they hiding? The other terrorists seem to have no shame.
Why do a couple of them always draw their head scarves over their faces for photographs? Is it because they may be blonde and blue eyed?
