ISLAMABAD, Nov 13 (Reuters) - The strategic southwestern Afghan province of Nimruz bordering Iran has been captured by the opposition Northern Alliance on Tuesday, CNN reported."Nimruz is also very critical because of its proximity to Herat. We are told Farah may follow," CNN correspondent Kamal Hyder said from the southern city of Kandahar, the stronghold of the Taliban.
The western city of Herat was captured by the opposition Northern Alliance on Monday and only a few provinces, including Nimruz, lie between the Northern Alliance and the southern city of Kandahar that is the powerbase of the Taliban.
There was no independent confirmation of the report, which came hours after the Taliban left Kabul and the opposition Northern Alliance captured the capital city early on Tuesday.
