BUSH TO NAME JUSTICE DEPARTMENT AFTER LAWBREAKING ROBERT F. KENNEDY
Judicial Watch Press Release ^ | 11/17/01

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

11/17/2001

202-646-5172

BUSH TO NAME JUSTICE DEPARTMENT AFTER LAWBREAKING ROBERT F. KENNEDY

“FRIEND” TED KENNEDY CONVINCED G.W. TO HONOR BROTHER

(Washington, DC) Judicial Watch, the non-partisan public interest law firm that investigates and prosecutes government abuse and corruption, was astonished to learn today that President Bush intends to name the Justice Department after the late Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy.

“The ethical and legal standards of the Bush administration will sink low if the President carries through with his plan of naming the nation’s top law enforcement agency after someone who spent his tenure in the Justice Department trampling on the civil rights of all Americans. It is widely known that Kennedy urged then FBI director J. Edgar Hoover to misuse FBI files to blackmail members of Congress to “overlook” his brother, President John F. Kennedy’s, affair with an East German spy. With the possible exception of John Mitchell and Janet Reno, I cannot think of a worse choice,” stated Judicial Watch Chairman and General Counsel, Larry Klayman.

The Justice Department’s own mission statement says “the Department represents the citizens of the United States in enforcing the law in the public interest” and, yet, Kennedy is perhaps remembered most for three things, the ‘Get Hoffa’ campaign, which ran roughshod over all legal procedures in a personal vendetta against one man, the wiretapping of civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr., along with the aforementioned silencing of a congressional investigation into President John Kennedy’s affair with alleged East German spy Ellen Romisch.

Yankee legend Joe DiMaggio reportedly refused to shake Kennedy’s hand at Marilyn Monroe’s funeral because of his belief that he and his brother had something to do with her untimely death. Klayman opined, “Joltin’ Joe was right then and George W. Bush is wrong now. As for reports today in The Washington Post that George W. Bush has become a close friend of Senator Ted Kennedy- a politician who many believed murdered Mary Jo Kopeche and was instrumental in convincing Bush to name the Justice Department after his brother Robert…the President should learn to choose better people to be associated with,” Klayman added.

Does Larry work on legal cases anymore, or is he just a full-time Bush-basher?

Very few of us here care what Larry "opines."

Hey, two out of three of those sound pretty good to me!

Bush is doing what smart politicians always do. They trade fame and glory for substance.

Bush needs Teddy Kennedy to get lots of nominations through the Judiciary committee. Kennedys crave fame an imortality more than ideology. I suspect Bush traded a building name for some Teddy votes for nominations.

It is the kind of thing that Democrats have done for generations. They have been good at getting Republicans to trade substance for recognition. Republicans have always lived to regret it.

Naming a building for a Kennedy in exchange for judges we can like, is a very good deal for our side.

Remember Klayman is not on either side in our political syste. He is just a man who has, from day one, been out for greasing his own pocket. I posted over a year ago that Larry was going to swap sides and try to milk Democrats for funds to go after Bush the way he milked Republicans to go after Clinton.

Klayman is about parting the suckers from their money. Always has been. Always will be.

If he gets those good judges, the name of the building is a worthwhile trade, provided the nominations were the motive.

Does anyone remember the recent picture of GW with hands on the back of the great whale, Ted Kennedy. Remember the stunned look that Ted had.

Well, rumor has it, that, GW, offered Teddy, to name the new building the Teddy Kennedy building. The only problem, it couldn't be name after anyone still alive!

This kind offer brought that stunned look out on Teddy's ample face!

I think this iwas a wise move on Bush's part. Did anyone catch what Runsfield read in response to this? Something about how Bobby would of killed terrorists without asking any questions......this was to show that even a loved and famous Democrat would of been in favor of MILITARY TRIALS!

I can.

Sounds like Larry is STILL mad because he didn't get an offer to join this administration.

This is why President Bush is a uniter, not a divider.

That's why Larry is so upset; this must be killing his fund raising because he depends on divisiveness, much like Jesse Jackson.

He is the right man, at the right time.

And that is killing Klayman. An honest man who Klayman has to make up stuff about.

If he wasn't after seeing Marilyn, he wasn't really a man. Instead of being glad, he was probably Gay, the opposite of being glad!

Klayman seems to think that Bush shouldn't speak to ANYBODY he, Larry Klayman, deems to be unacceptable. First he went off about George and Laura going to TEA at the White House with Hillary and Bill Clinton; of course, it didn't bother Klayman at all that it would have been RUDE not to, since EVERY president since the beginning of time has gone to have tea with the outgoing president.

Did Klayman want Bush to snub Clinton and make a fool of himself? Perhaps give the liberal media something else to pound Bush with?

Klayman needs to brush up on his HISTORY and his social skills.

And if he wants to play politics, he should learn how things are done in D.C. Maybe he'll get a clue as to why he's so unliked around there.

BTW, where is the PROOF that Kennedy convinced Bush to do this? I heard it was already in the works. What's Klayman's SOURCE????

Based upon the way this PR is written I'd say they read the articles that referred to the Dept. rather than the Building housing the department.

You hit the nail on the head. Liberals LOVE symbolism...which is all this is...nothing more.

If he can trade these "magic beans" for a "cow" then he has made the better deal. This is almost like buying Manhattan from the Indians for a bunch of beads...both sides ended up happy in their own way and, until much later, both sides thought they got the best part of the deal.

Gotta' know when to hold 'em and when to fold them.

Historically, blind loyalty has only exacerbated the destruction of humanity. To continue to listen to Judicial Watch is troubling, especially in a time when there is not one reason to doubt the progress against the enemy by the Bush Admin after 9-11.

I do smell a "snake-oil salesman". Maybe Larry should get an infomercial.

So Teddy "murdered" Mary Jo Kopechne? That would mean he killed her with malice aforethought. We'll never know what really happened, but he may have just been drunk. I don't think he intended to kill her.

Bobby went to Joe McCarthy's funeral.

How could any attorney be so stupid as to think that a department of government could be named after an individual?

No wonder he hasn't won any cases.

Well, we should have predicted this press release. In fact, I though about posting it as a comment last night but I thought that would be mean-spirited to the few Klayman fans who still frequent the forum.

I was foolishly timid. Next time I won't be.

I predict the next press release will be an attack on President Bush's relationship with Vladimir Putin. Klayman will DEMAND to see the agreement on arms reduction, or oil sales, or whatever. You know he will. It was a slow news day, so all he could grind out quickly was this lame attempt at pot-stirring. The big deal will be on Monday when he goes after Bush and Putin.

I am quite eager to see Klaymamn take on Putin. I think Putin would grind him up in 30 seconds flat.

Actually, dog, you are the one being disruptive on this thread. This is a conservative forum. This thread was posted to point out that our current President (a Republican, who is sometimes a Conservative) was naming a federal building after a crooked Democrat.

I would think that most Conservatives would frown upon naming government buildings after crooked liberals. Those of you who put party ahead of principle decided to disrupt this thread and attack those who dare criticize your new deity.

But remember, it is you who are being disruptive to this legitimate discussion of Bush's unconservative decision to name a government building after a crooked liberal.

I merely reminded folks that Dog's deity had named government property after crooked liberals before. My behavior should not be considered disruptive on any forum that considers itself to be Conservative.
