Thank you for posting this.

Many will ridicule you, but there are some who will actually read it and consider the issue seriously.

I, too, was deeply interested in the occult and New Age readings for about 10 years. I gave it up, though, when I realized that NONE OF IT WORKS! You can meditate your a$$ off and the world doesn't change around you, your boss is still a dork, and the bills are still unpaid.

It was a great relief to return to reality.

I suspect that most children, after an afternoon of trying to get the broom to jump off the floor, will come to the same conclusion I did.

So, go see the movie if you want to.

I have discussed Harry Potter with many people in my family as I have several nieces and nephews who love the series. Two of my sisters have read the books and insist they see nothing harmful in them.

Having said that, I have read some fairly convincing criticism of the books from Michael O'Brien, among others. I guess I should read the books myself to decide, but I just can't seem to find the motivation...

More than happy to oblige, ma'am.

Had this thread been ignored I'd probably not bother any further with the subject. However, seeing how much it irritates the shills means I'll probably make a point of digging up more on the subject.

I understand your concern. I don't like to see wizardry portrayed in such a seemingly innocent and heroic presentation.

For those who are giving you a hard time, just remember

1 Corinthians 2:14
The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Thanks for posting this. As a Christian there's no way I can blindly accept this as harmless entertainment. It's witchcraft 101 and kids do not need to be exposed to this unless they get a serious explanation of what it's really about.

Attesting to Satans’s reality in no way impugns God’s sovereignty.
Satan opposed God in Heaven, and Satan opposes God and God’s people here on earth.

I found no hate in the article. A warning, yes. But awareness does not equal hate.

Watch your thoughts; they become words.

Watch your words; they become actions.

Watch your actions; they become habits.

Watch your habits; they become character.

Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

No truer words spoken.

an innocent magical spoof like the film "Princess Bride",

I love that movie ...

Often, when typing replies in haste on FreeRepublic, I hear a voice saying: Ah, you keep repeating that word ... I do not think you know what it really means ...

I also love it when our so-called neo-pagans weigh in on these threads in all their ignorant glory. As one who's been exposed to longterm -- and dabbled in shortterm -- the sorts of New Age arts of which this woman speaks, I assure you she's on the money.

Ooooooh You caught me. I'm being paid by the author to refute fundie nutjobs on the internet. Aren't you just a clever one?

Actually, no. Refuting fundie nutjobs is something I do for free..

The wrist-limpness test turned out OK but, now that you mention it, I now suspect that my wife was replaced by a different woman several years ago, even though she goes by the same name & identity as the 1st woman (my original wife)

Gasp! A Stepford Wife?

It is profoundly abnormal for an adult to confuse fanatasy with reality. If this author actually thinks that telepathy and time travel and the rest of that garbage is real, the author is in dire need of psychological assistance.

Not only that, this writer can't even get his HP facts right.

Perhaps the most revelatory aspect of the series is that Harry and the rest of the wizard cohort view all non-magical adults, called "Muggles", as stupid, antagonistic and not to be trusted. The entire Muggle world is looked upon as archaic, even grossly ignorant -

Actually this sort of elitism worries me more than anything else I've heard about the books. I disliked the "Mundanes" of "Mundania" in Piers Anthony's Xanth series, long before I disliked Piers Anthony. This sounds -- although I'll have to read the books to be sure -- like rather the same attitude.

The problem is, J.K. Rowling doesn't portray all "muggles" as "archaic, even grossly ignorant." That interpretation is simply not supportable and a further knock against the credibility of this critic.
